# How to Set Up Solar and Battery Banks in 7D2D

> Master the basics of electricity in 7 Days to Die. Learn how to power your base with solar energy, generators, and battery banks for ultimate survival.

## Powering Your Defenses

Survival during the Blood Moon in 7 Days to Die (7D2D) requires more than just high walls. Active defenses such as Blade Traps, Electric Fences, and Auto Turrets are essential. To keep these systems operational, you must establish a consistent and reliable electrical grid within your base.

## Power Sources

Selecting the appropriate power source depends on your available resources and whether you want to maintain a low profile.

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="Generator Bank">
    * **Fuel:** Converts **Gasoline** into electrical power.
    * **Pros:** Highly reliable and accessible early in the game.
    * **Cons:** Generates significant noise and heat, which can attract Screamer zombies to your location.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Battery Bank">
    * **Fuel:** Operates using lead-acid batteries.
    * **Pros:** Completely silent, making it ideal for stealthy base defense.
    * **Cons:** Batteries will eventually drain and must be recharged using a Generator or Solar Bank.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Solar Bank">
    * **Fuel:** Harnesses **Solar Cells** to generate power from sunlight.
    * **Pros:** Silent and provides infinite power during daylight hours.
    * **Cons:** Non-craftable; must be purchased from Traders or discovered as rare high-tier loot.
  </Tab>

## Wiring Your Base

To build your electrical grid, you will need to use the **Wire Tool**.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Equip the Wire Tool">
    Place the Wire Tool in your active hotbar and select it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Connect Source to Device">
    Right-click your power source (e.g., Solar Bank), then right-click a switch or relay, and finally right-click the specific device you wish to power.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Manage Wire Length">
    Electrical wires have a maximum length of **15 meters**. If your base design requires longer connections, use **Electric Relays** to bridge the distance.
  </Step>
</Steps>

  ### Monitor Your Load

  Each power source has a maximum wattage output. For instance, a Solar Bank equipped with six high-tier cells provides 180W. If your total power draw exceeds this capacity, the entire grid will fail.

## Advanced Power Strategies

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Hybrid Charging Systems">
    A highly effective strategy is to connect a **Solar Bank** to a **Battery Bank**, then connect the Battery Bank to your traps. This allows the sun to charge your batteries throughout the day, ensuring you have silent power available all night long.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Sensor Integration">
    Save power by using **Motion Sensors** or **Pressure Plates**. By only activating your traps when zombies are nearby, you can significantly extend the life of your battery banks and reduce fuel consumption in generators.
  </Accordion>

<Note>
  ### Component Quality

  The quality of your Solar Cells and Batteries directly affects the efficiency of your grid. Higher-tier components provide more wattage and higher storage capacity, respectively.
