# Assetto Corsa server_cfg.ini Explained: Every Setting

> Assetto Corsa server_cfg.ini explained: name, track, cars, player limit, assists, wear, voting, sessions and weather, with defaults and lines the panel sets.

`cfg/server_cfg.ini` is the main config file of the Assetto Corsa dedicated server. It sets the server name (`NAME`), track (`TRACK`, `CONFIG_TRACK`), cars (`CARS`), player limit (`MAX_CLIENTS`), assists, wear, voting, sessions and weather. On your FREAKHOSTING server you edit it in **Files** while the server is stopped. The panel writes the passwords and ports on every start; every other line keeps your value.

| Fact | Value |
| - | - |
| File | `cfg/server_cfg.ini` |
| Edit with | **Files** (stop the server first) |
| Set by the panel at each start | `PASSWORD`, `ADMIN_PASSWORD`, `UDP_PORT`, `TCP_PORT`, `HTTP_PORT` |
| Kept as you set them | Everything else |

## How to edit server\_cfg.ini

**1. Stop the server**

[Stop your server](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/game-panel/how-to-start-stop-and-restart-your-game-server.md).

**2. Open the file**

Click **Files**, open `cfg` and click `server_cfg.ini`.

**3. Change values and save**

Change only the value after `=`. Keep the key names and section headers as they are, then save.

**4. Start the server**

Start it and check the [console](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/game-panel/how-to-use-the-server-console.md) for `CONNECTED TO LOBBY`.

## Frequently asked questions

### Why do my password changes in server\_cfg.ini disappear?

The panel writes `PASSWORD` and `ADMIN_PASSWORD` from **Startup** on every start. See [server and admin password](https://help.freakhosting.com/games/assetto-corsa/how-to-set-a-password-on-your-assetto-corsa-server.md).

### Can I edit server\_cfg.ini while the server is running?

Stop it first. The server reads the file when it starts, so changes apply after a restart.

### Can I use a server\_cfg.ini from Content Manager?

Yes. Content Manager's **Pack** creates one. The panel still sets passwords and ports. See [Content Manager server presets](https://help.freakhosting.com/games/assetto-corsa/using-ac-server-wrapper-content-manager.md).

### How do I hide my server from the online list?

Set `REGISTER_TO_LOBBY=0`. Players then need your address to join, so most owners keep it at `1` and use a password instead.
