A Klei cluster token is the key that lets a Don't Starve Together dedicated server run online. To set one on FREAKHOSTING, open the [Klei account game servers page](https://accounts.klei.com/account/game/servers?game=DontStarveTogether), enter a name and click **Add New Server**, copy the token, paste it into **Server Token** on the **Startup** page and restart. Without a valid token the server does not start. | Difficulty | Time | Works on | Panel page | | - | - | - | - | | Beginner | 5 minutes | Every FREAKHOSTING Don't Starve Together server | **Startup** > **Server Token** | ## Before you start * You need the Klei account that owns your copy of Don't Starve Together. * Log in to the [Game Panel](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/game-panel/how-to-login-and-access-the-game-panel.md) and open your server. * A new server comes with placeholder text in **Server Token**. It is not a real token, so the server cannot start until you replace it. ## How to get a cluster token from the Klei website **1. Open the Klei game servers page** Go to [accounts.klei.com/account/game/servers?game=DontStarveTogether](https://accounts.klei.com/account/game/servers?game=DontStarveTogether) and sign in with your Klei account. **2. Add a new server** At the bottom of the page, enter a cluster name and click **Add New Server**. The name here is only a label on Klei's site. It does not have to match your server name. **3. Copy the token** Your new server appears in the list with its token. Copy the whole token. Don't add spaces or line breaks. ## How to get a cluster token in the game You can also create a token from inside Don't Starve Together on your PC. **1. Open the console** Start the game and press the tilde key (`~`) on the main menu to open the console. **2. Generate the token** Type this command and press Enter: ```lua theme={null} TheNet:GenerateClusterToken() ``` **3. Open the token file** The game writes the token to `cluster_token.txt` in your Klei folder. On Windows this is `Documents/Klei/DoNotStarveTogether/cluster_token.txt`. On Linux it is `~/.klei/DoNotStarveTogether/cluster_token.txt`. Open the file and copy the token. ## How to add the token to your server **1. Open Startup** In the [Game Panel](https://games.freakhosting.com), open your server and click **Startup** under **ESSENTIALS**. **2. Paste the token** Find **Server Token**, delete the placeholder text and paste your token. Click outside the field so the panel saves it. Restart the server** [Restart the server](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/game-panel/how-to-start-stop-and-restart-your-game-server.md) so it reads the new token. **4. Check the console** Open the [console](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/game-panel/how-to-use-the-server-console.md) and watch the start-up. If you see `E_INVALID_TOKEN` or `!!!! Your Server Will Not Start !!!!`, the token is wrong. Always check the console to be sure your world has started. ## Where is the token stored on my server? The server keeps the token in `cluster_token.txt` in the `DoNotStarveTogether/config/server/` folder. You don't need to edit this file. Set the token on **Startup** instead. Treat the token like a password. Don't share it or show it in screenshots. ## Frequently asked questions ### What is a Klei cluster token? It is a code from your Klei account that tells Klei's servers who runs the Don't Starve Together server. A dedicated server needs one to go online and appear in **Browse Games**. ### Does the name on the Klei website have to match my server name? No. The name you enter on the Klei website is only a label there. Players see the **Server name** you set in **Game settings**. ### My server shows Online but nobody can find it. Is it the token? Often, yes. Check the console for `E_INVALID_TOKEN`. If it is there, the server never started, so it can't appear in the list. Paste a valid token on **Startup** and restart. ### Can I use a token I made in the game console? Yes. A token from `TheNet:GenerateClusterToken()` works the same as one from the Klei website. ### How do I change the token later?
