# FiveM Server Commands: Console Commands List with Examples

> FiveM server commands list: console commands for resources, players, permissions and settings, with exact syntax and examples for your FREAKHOSTING server.

FiveM server commands are typed in the server console: on FREAKHOSTING, open your server and use the command box on the **Console** page. The most used are `ensure <resource>` (start or restart a resource), `refresh` (find new resources), `status` (list players), `clientkick <id> <reason>` (kick a player) and `add_ace` / `add_principal` (permissions). They work while the server is running.

## Where do I type FiveM server commands?

* **Game Panel console**: click **Console** in the sidebar and type in the command box. Don't type a `/` in front. See [how to use the server console](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/game-panel/how-to-use-the-server-console.md).
* **txAdmin**: its **Live Console** runs the same commands. Click **Open txAdmin** next to your IP.
* **In-game**: the F8 console on a player's PC runs client commands, not server commands.

## Resource commands

| Command | What it does | Example |

| `ensure <name>` | Starts a resource, or restarts it if it is running. | `ensure pma-voice` |
| `start <name>` | Starts a stopped resource. | `start bob74_ipl` |
| `stop <name>` | Stops a running resource. | `stop mycar` |
| `restart <name>` | Restarts a running resource. | `restart qb-core` |
| `refresh` | Rescans the `resources` folder so new or changed resources can be started. | `refresh` |
| `ensure [category]` | Works on every resource in a category folder. `start`, `stop` and `restart` accept categories too. | `ensure [cars]` |
| `exec <file>` | Runs the commands in a file, relative to the server folder, or in a resource with `@`. | `exec @vMenu/config/permissions.cfg` |

After uploading a resource, run `refresh`, then `ensure <name>`. The **Refresh resources** and **Ensure resource** quick buttons do the same.

## Player commands

| Command | What it does | Example |
| - | - | - |
| `status` | Lists players with their server ID, identifiers, name, address and ping. | `status` |
| `clientkick <id> <reason>` | Kicks the player with that server ID. | `clientkick 3 Breaking the rules` |
| `say <message>` | Sends a chat message as *console*. | `say Restart in 5 minutes` |

`status` and `clientkick` come from the `rconlog` resource, and `say` from the `chat` resource. If they don't work, make sure those resources are started. For bans, use txAdmin, which keeps a ban list.

## Permission commands (ace and principals)

| Command | What it does | Example |

| `add_ace <principal> <object> <allow\|deny>` | Gives a group or player a permission. | `add_ace group.admin command allow` |
| `remove_ace <principal> <object> <allow\|deny>` | Removes that permission again. | `remove_ace group.admin command allow` |
| `add_principal <child> <parent>` | Puts a player or group into another group. | `add_principal identifier.fivem:1234567 group.admin` |
| `remove_principal <child> <parent>` | Takes them out again. | `remove_principal identifier.fivem:1234567 group.admin` |
| `test_ace <principal> <object>` | Checks whether a principal has a permission. | `test_ace group.admin command` |

Permissions typed in the console are lost at the next restart. To keep them, put the lines in `server.cfg` or a file you `exec` from it.

## Settings (convars)

| Command | What it does | Example |
| - | - | - |
| `set <name> <value>` | Sets a server setting (convar). | `set mysql_connection_string "…"` |
| `sets <name> <value>` | Like `set`, but the name and value also appear in the server list. | `sets tags "roleplay, cars"` |
| `setr <name> <value>` | Like `set`, but the value is also sent to players' games (replicated). | `setr voice_useNativeAudio true` |

Some settings only work in `server.cfg` at start-up, for example `sv_enforceGameBuild`. On FREAKHOSTING, change those on the [Server config](https://help.freakhosting.com/games/fivem/configuring-servercfg-for-fivem.md) page.

## Useful one-off commands

| Command | What it does |
| - | - |
| `profiler record 500` | Records the next 500 frames to find slow scripts. See [server thread hitch warnings](https://help.freakhosting.com/games/fivem/fixing-server-thread-hitch-warnings-in-fivem.md). |
| `profiler status` | Shows whether a recording is still running. |
| `profiler saveJSON profile.json` | Saves the recording to a file. |

To stop or restart the whole server, use the **Stop** and **Restart** buttons at the top of the page, or txAdmin. That way the panel and txAdmin both know what happened.

## How to add your own console button

Commands you use often can get their own button above the console.

**1. Click +**

Click the **+** next to the quick buttons.

**2. Fill it in**

Choose **One command** or **Several commands**. Give it a **Name** (up to 24 characters) and a **Command** (up to 200 characters), for example `ensure [cars]`. A semicolon is sent as a comma, so use **Several commands** to run more than one. Tick **Ask before running it** for anything that affects players.

**3. Save**

Click **Add button**. It is saved in this browser, for this server only.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is the FiveM command to restart a script?

`ensure <name>` or `restart <name>`, for example `ensure qb-inventory`. `ensure` also starts it if it isn't running.

### How do I see who is online?

Type `status`. It lists every player with their server ID, which you need for `clientkick`.

### How do I ban a player from the console?

FXServer has no built-in ban command. Use txAdmin: open the player in txAdmin and choose ban, or use the in-game txAdmin menu with `/tx`.

### Why does a command say it is unknown?

The resource that adds it isn't started, or you typed a `/` in front. Server console commands have no slash.

### Are server.cfg lines the same as console commands?

Yes. `server.cfg` is a list of console commands that run at start-up, which is why `ensure`, `set` and `add_ace` work in both.
