# How to Install Mods and Resources on Your FiveM Server

> Install FiveM mods and resources on FREAKHOSTING: upload a zip with fxmanifest.lua on Resources, switch on Start at boot, and use SFTP for mods over 100 MB.

FiveM mods are called resources: scripts, cars, maps and clothing that each sit in their own folder with a `fxmanifest.lua` file. To install one on FREAKHOSTING, click **Resources** under **FIVEM**, click **Upload a resource**, drop the `.zip` (up to 100 MB), switch on **Start at boot** and restart. Upload mods bigger than 100 MB with SFTP.

## Before you start

* Download mods from their official page or a source you trust.
* Check that the zip contains a `fxmanifest.lua`. Resources with only an old `__resource.lua` are outdated; look for a newer version.
* Read the mod's instructions for dependencies, such as `oxmysql` or a framework.

The Resources page

| Part | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Search resources** | Find a resource by name. |
| **All** / **Start at boot** / **Not started** | Filter the list. |
| Category folder, e.g. `[system]` | The folder in square brackets the resource sits in. |
| **Details** | Shows the resource's description, version and author. |
| **Start at boot** | Adds or removes the resource's `ensure` line in `server.cfg`. |
| **Delete** | Removes the resource from the server. |

The summary line shows how many resources you have and how many start with the server, for example "16 resources, 2 start with the server."

## How to install a FiveM mod

**1. Open Resources**

Open your server in the [Game Panel](https://games.freakhosting.com) and click **Resources** under **FIVEM**.

**2. Upload the zip**

Click **Upload a resource**. Drop the `.zip` on the box or click **Choose a zip file**. The panel checks it first, then unpacks it on the server.

**3. Switch on Start at boot**

Find the resource in the list and switch on **Start at boot**.

**4. Start it**

Restart the server, or start the resource now from the console (see below).

## How to start a resource without a restart

While the server is running, use the quick buttons above the console:

1. Click **Refresh resources**. This runs `refresh`, so the server finds new resources.
2. Click **Ensure resource** and enter the resource's folder name. This starts it, or restarts it if it is already running.

Or type the commands yourself:

## How to install mods bigger than 100 MB

1. Unzip the mod on your computer.
2. Connect with an SFTP client such as FileZilla or WinSCP. You find the address and user name on the SFTP card under **Settings**; the password is your panel password. See [how to connect via SFTP](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/game-panel/how-to-connect-via-sftp.md).
3. Upload the folder into `resources`, or into a category folder such as `resources/[scripts]`.
4. On **Resources**, switch on **Start at boot** for it, and restart.

## Frequently asked questions

### In which order should FiveM resources start?

Dependencies first: system resources, then `oxmysql`, then your framework, then scripts, voice and assets. See [FiveM resource start order](https://help.freakhosting.com/games/fivem/fivem-resource-start-order.md).

### Why does the console say "Couldn't find resource"?

The name in the `ensure` line doesn't match the folder name, or `fxmanifest.lua` is one folder too deep. See [how to fix "Couldn't find resource"](https://help.freakhosting.com/games/fivem/fivem-couldnt-find-resource.md).

### Why don't my changes on Resources work?

If txAdmin runs your server from another folder, **Server config** shows **txAdmin runs this server** and the **Resources** page edits a folder the server doesn't use. See [how to set up txAdmin](https://help.freakhosting.com/games/fivem/how-to-install-txadmin-on-fivem.md).

### Does Delete remove a resource for good?

**Delete** removes the resource from the server. Make a [backup](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/game-panel/how-to-create-and-restore-backups.md) first if you might want it back.
