## The Server config page

**Server config** shows your `server.cfg` in plain words. Only the lines you change are touched; everything else in the file stays as it is.

Open your server, then click **Server config** in the sidebar under **FIVEM**.

![Server config page with an Open txAdmin button, a Checks box with one item to look at, and the Your server section with Server name, Project name, Player slots marked your plan, Language and Licence key fields](https://mintcdn.com/freakhostingltd/oRNjFa_9Ix118Tkc/images/games/fivem/fivem-server-config.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=oRNjFa_9Ix118Tkc\&q=85\&s=d48b662f9e2dccff938d0b037254834d)

The Server config page

> [!WARNING]
>
> If the **Checks** box shows **txAdmin runs this server**, txAdmin reads `server.cfg` from the folder you chose in its setup. Pick your server's main folder there, or the changes on this page are not used. See [Set up txAdmin](https://help.freakhosting.com/games/fivem/getting-started.md#step-3-set-up-txadmin).

### Your server

| Field | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Server name** | The name shown in the FiveM server list. |
| **Project name** | A short name that appears in the server list. It is not a list of tags. |
| **Player slots** | Shows your slots. Marked **your plan**: the panel writes this line from the Startup variable **Max Players** at every start. See [Player slots](#player-slots). |
| **Language** | The language your server lists itself under, for example **English (United States) (en-US)**. |
| **Licence key** | Shows whether a key is set. Change it in **Startup** with the **Change it in Startup** link. |

### Gameplay and security

![Gameplay and security section with the OneSync selector set to On (recommended), a Game build drop-down, Allow Script Hook and Hide player IP addresses toggles, and a Server list section with Description, Tags, banner and server icon fields](https://mintcdn.com/freakhostingltd/oRNjFa_9Ix118Tkc/images/games/fivem/fivem-server-config-gameplay.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=oRNjFa_9Ix118Tkc\&q=85\&s=5efb1a4c0251eb6d1b5db67c89de2408)

Gameplay, security and server list settings

| Field | What it does |
| - | - |
| **OneSync** | How the server syncs players and vehicles. See [OneSync](#onesync). |
| **Game build** | Makes every player run at least this GTA V build (`sv_enforceGameBuild`). See [Game build](#game-build). |
| **Allow Script Hook** | Lets players with Script Hook V (single-player mod menus) join. Leave it off: Cfx.re does not recommend it, because it makes cheating easier. |
| **Hide player IP addresses** | Keeps player IP addresses out of the server's public information. On by default; leave it on. |

### Server list

| Field | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Description** | A longer description for the server list. |
| **Tags** | Search tags, separated by commas, for example `roleplay, cars, english`. |
| **Banner on the connect screen** | An `https://` image link shown while players connect. |
| **Banner in the server details** | An `https://` image link shown on your server's details page in the list. |
| **Server icon file** | A 96 × 96 PNG in the server's main folder. Upload it in **Files**, then type only its file name, for example `logo.png`. |

A field marked **not in the file** has no line in `server.cfg` yet. Filling it in adds the line.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Cfx.re also lets you manage your server's listing on [portal.cfx.re](https://portal.cfx.re). If the server list shows something different from what you set here, check your server's details on the Portal too.

### Save your changes

**1. Review**

Change the fields you want, then click **Review and save** in the bar at the bottom. Click **Discard** to undo everything instead.

**2. Check the changes**

**Review your changes** shows exactly which lines change in `server.cfg`. Licence keys, passwords and other secrets are hidden in this view.

![Review your changes dialog showing the server.cfg lines that will change, a note that the old file is kept as server.cfg.bak, and Cancel and Save changes buttons](https://mintcdn.com/freakhostingltd/oRNjFa_9Ix118Tkc/images/games/fivem/fivem-server-config-review.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=oRNjFa_9Ix118Tkc\&q=85\&s=b2372f2f34677cd24e8f97b9508881ea)

Review your changes before you save

**3. Save**

Click **Save changes**. The old file is kept as `server.cfg.bak`, so you can go back if needed.

**4. Restart**

Restart the server so the changes take effect.

Need a setting that isn't on the page? Click **Advanced: open the raw file** to edit `server.cfg` directly in the file editor. The editor keeps earlier versions of the file; see [how to use the file manager](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/game-panel/how-to-use-the-file-manager.md).

## OneSync

| Option | Use it when |
| - | - |
| **On (recommended)** | Almost always. Needed for more than 32 players and for most modern scripts and frameworks. |
| **Legacy (old, not recommended)** | Only if an old script needs it. |
| **Off (up to 32 players)** | Only for very old resources that don't work with OneSync. |

According to [Cfx.re](https://docs.fivem.net/docs/scripting-reference/onesync), OneSync is free up to 48 slots. For more than 48 slots, your licence key needs a FiveM Element Club subscription from the Argentum tier upwards, bought on [portal.cfx.re](https://portal.cfx.re).

***

## Game build

The game build decides which GTA V DLC content (cars, clothes, maps) your server can use. Every build includes everything from the builds before it.

1. In **Server config**, open **Game build** and pick a build. Click **Details** for more about each option.
2. Click **Review and save**, then **Save changes**.
3. Restart the server. Players download the matching game data the next time they join.

Some resources need a minimum build, for example cars or clothing from a recent DLC. Check the resource's instructions. For the full list of builds and their DLC names, see the [Cfx.re server commands reference](https://docs.fivem.net/docs/server-manual/server-commands/).

> [!TIP]
>
> Only raise the build when a resource needs it. A higher build means a larger download for players joining for the first time.

***

## Startup variables

Click **Startup** in the sidebar. Change a field and click outside it: it saves on its own. Restart the server to apply it. See [how to configure startup variables](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/game-panel/how-to-configure-startup-variables.md).

| Variable | Default | What it does |
| - | - | - |
| **FxServer License Key** | `changemeplease` | Your Cfx.re licence key. Required: the server does not start without a valid key. See [Get a licence key](https://help.freakhosting.com/games/fivem/getting-started.md#step-1-get-a-licence-key). |
| **Max Players** | Your plan's slots | The number of player slots. See below. |
| **Steam Web Api Key** | `none` | Lets the server read Steam identifiers. See below. |
| **Enable / Disable TxAdmin** | On (read only) | txAdmin always runs your server. You can't switch it off. |
| **txAdmin Port** | `40120` | The port txAdmin listens on. **Open txAdmin** uses it. Don't change it. |
| **Auto Update** | On | Leave it as it is unless our support team asks you to change it. |
| **txAdmin Profile** | `default` | The name of txAdmin's profile. Leave it as it is. |
| **Server Hostname** | `Hosted by FREAKHOSTING.COM` | The server's host name. |

The Docker image (`ghcr.io/luxxy-gf/pterodactyl-fivem`) is the only one available, so there is nothing to choose there.

### Player slots

Your player slots come from your plan. At every start, the panel writes `sv_maxclients` in `server.cfg` from **Max Players**, so any number you type into `server.cfg` by hand is overwritten.

* To get more slots than your plan includes, upgrade your plan in the [client area](https://freakhosting.com/clientarea).
* More than 32 players needs **OneSync** set to **On**, and more than 48 needs an Element Club subscription on your licence key (see [OneSync](#onesync)).

### Steam Web API key

Without a Steam Web API key, your server can't see players' Steam identifiers. Scripts that use Steam IDs for admin rights or bans then don't work.

**1. Get a key**

Sign in at [steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey](https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey), enter any domain name (for example your community's website) and copy the key.

**2. Paste it**

In **Startup**, replace `none` in **Steam Web Api Key** with your key.

**3. Restart**

Restart the server.

## Change the FXServer build

FXServer is the server program itself (often called the "artifact"). The **Artifacts** page lets you switch it in a few clicks, and go back if something breaks.

![Artifacts page showing the currently installed FXServer build and txAdmin version, a Refresh button, and three cards: Recommended, Latest and Pick a specific build, each with a build number, txAdmin version and support end date](https://mintcdn.com/freakhostingltd/oRNjFa_9Ix118Tkc/images/games/fivem/fivem-artifacts.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=oRNjFa_9Ix118Tkc\&q=85\&s=c5b86915d416438e9daf62d966fd6beb)

The Artifacts page

| Card | What it is |
| - | - |
| **Recommended** | The build Cfx.re points most servers to. A safe default. |
| **Latest** | The newest build, with the newest fixes and features. |
| **Pick a specific build** | Any build Cfx.re lists, newer or older than yours. |

A badge such as **YOUR BUILD** or **OLDER THAN YOURS** shows how each one compares to what you run now.

**1. Make a backup**

[Create a backup](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/game-panel/how-to-create-and-restore-backups.md) first, so you can undo anything that goes wrong.

**2. Pick a build**

Click **Artifacts** in the sidebar, then click **Recommended**, **Latest** or **Pick a specific build**.

**3. Check the dialog**

The dialog shows the build you run now, the build you picked and until when Cfx.re supports it. If you pick an older build, you see a warning that resources and txAdmin data made for a newer build may not work on it.

![Change FXServer Build dialog with a Build drop-down, the supported-until date, a warning for an older build, the four steps of what will happen, a Start the server afterwards toggle and Cancel and Change Build buttons](https://mintcdn.com/freakhostingltd/oRNjFa_9Ix118Tkc/images/games/fivem/fivem-artifact-change.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=oRNjFa_9Ix118Tkc\&q=85\&s=11c71a39b872dccd1fe67fe847531ca8)

Changing the FXServer build

**4. Change the build**

Switch on **Start the server afterwards** if you want, then click **Change Build**.

### What happens

1. The new build is downloaded (about 70 MB) and checked while your server keeps running.
2. The server is stopped.
3. The server program is replaced. The old build is kept, so you can go back with one click.
4. The server stays stopped until you start it (unless you switched on **Start the server afterwards**).

Your resources, `server.cfg`, txAdmin data, cache and logs are not touched. The switch takes about half a minute.

![Progress list for switching builds with every step ticked, from Checking the server to Done, and a Build changed message saying the server now runs the new build and is stopped](https://mintcdn.com/freakhostingltd/oRNjFa_9Ix118Tkc/images/games/fivem/fivem-artifact-done.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=oRNjFa_9Ix118Tkc\&q=85\&s=bbe4f3196922ab9ae5a65fe84956cc7c)

The build has been changed

### Go back to your old build

After a change, the **Artifacts** page shows who installed the build and when, and that the previous build is kept.

* Click **Go back to build …** to switch back.
* Click **Delete it** to remove the kept build once you're happy with the new one.

![Artifacts page after a change, showing the installed build, who installed it and when, and Go back and Delete it buttons for the previous build](https://mintcdn.com/freakhostingltd/oRNjFa_9Ix118Tkc/images/games/fivem/fivem-artifacts-after.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=oRNjFa_9Ix118Tkc\&q=85\&s=a280ce80732acfdba643130858c2b9be)

The previous build is kept as a way back

### Builds expire

Every FXServer build has an end-of-support date from Cfx.re, shown as **until** on each card. A build past its date may stop working. Check the **Artifacts** page now and then and move to **Recommended** before your build expires.
