# How to Install vMenu on Your FiveM Server

> Install vMenu on your FiveM server: download it, upload it to resources, load permissions.cfg before ensure vMenu and give admins and players access.

To install vMenu on a FREAKHOSTING FiveM server, download the latest release from GitHub, upload it into a `resources/vMenu` folder, then add `exec @vMenu/config/permissions.cfg` above `ensure vMenu` in `server.cfg` and restart. vMenu is a free, server-side trainer menu: players change their look, spawn cars and set the weather, and admins kick and ban, but only with the permissions you give.

| Difficulty | Time | Works on | Panel page |
| - | - | - | - |
| Intermediate | 15 minutes | Every FREAKHOSTING FiveM server | **Files**, **Resources**, **Server config** |

## Before you start

* Set **OneSync** to **On (recommended)** on **Server config** and use the **Recommended** FXServer build on [Artifacts](https://help.freakhosting.com/games/fivem/how-to-update-your-fivem-server-artifact.md). vMenu's docs ask you to keep FXServer up to date.
* vMenu's documentation is at [docs.vespura.com/vmenu](https://docs.vespura.com/vmenu). It covers vMenu Enhanced and classic vMenu (v3.9.2 and older). This guide follows the classic vMenu docs.
* Running QBCore, Qbox or ESX? vMenu works next to them, but limit vehicle spawning and other options that could clash with your economy.

## How to download and upload vMenu

**1. Download vMenu**

Download the latest release zip from the [vMenu GitHub releases](https://github.com/TomGrobbe/vMenu/releases).

**2. Create the vMenu folder**

Open **Files**, go to `resources` and click **New folder**. Name it exactly `vMenu`, with a capital M. The name is case-sensitive.

**3. Upload the files**

Unzip vMenu on your computer and upload its contents into `resources/vMenu`. For many files at once, use [SFTP](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/game-panel/how-to-connect-via-sftp.md).

**4. Check the folder**

The file `resources/vMenu/fxmanifest.lua` must exist. If you see `resources/vMenu/vMenu/fxmanifest.lua`, move the files up one level.

> [!TIP]
>
> You can also use **Upload a resource** on the **Resources** page with the release zip. Afterwards, check that the resource is listed as `vMenu`. If the folder has another name, rename it to `vMenu` in **Files**.

![FiveM Resources page with a search box, All, Start at boot and Not started filters, an Upload a resource button and resource rows with a Start at boot toggle and Delete](https://mintcdn.com/freakhostingltd/oRNjFa_9Ix118Tkc/images/games/fivem/fivem-resources.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=oRNjFa_9Ix118Tkc\&q=85\&s=d801fd66daaeef927324873e2e82e9e8)

The Resources page lists every resource and whether it starts with the server

## How to load vMenu permissions in server.cfg

vMenu does not read `permissions.cfg` on its own. `server.cfg` must run it, and it must run **before** vMenu starts.

**1. Open server.cfg**

Go to **Server config** and click **Advanced: open the raw file**.

**2. Add the two lines in this order**

```cfg theme={null}
exec @vMenu/config/permissions.cfg
ensure vMenu
```

If **Start at boot** on **Resources** already added an `ensure vMenu` line, put the `exec` line above it and don't add a second `ensure`.

**3. Save and restart**

Save the file and restart the server. Check the console for vMenu errors.

## How to make yourself a vMenu admin

vMenu uses FiveM's ace permissions. A group is a **principal**, and a permission is an **ace**.

**1. Find your identifier**

Join the server, then type `status` in the panel **Console**. Note your identifier, for example `fivem:1234567` or `discord:123456789012345678`.

**2. Add yourself to the admin group**

Edit `resources/vMenu/config/permissions.cfg` in **Files** and add:

```cfg theme={null}
add_principal identifier.fivem:1234567 group.admin
```

**3. Give the group permissions**

For example:

```cfg theme={null}
add_ace group.admin "vMenu.OnlinePlayers.All" allow
add_ace group.admin "vMenu.VehicleSpawner.All" allow
add_ace group.admin "vMenu.NoClip" allow
```

**4. Restart and reconnect**

Changes to `permissions.cfg` need a server restart.

> [!WARNING]
>
> `vMenu.Everything` grants every option, including bans. vMenu's docs advise against giving it out.

## Which vMenu permissions should I use?

| Permission | What it allows |
| - | - |
| `vMenu.Everything` | Everything. Not recommended. |
| `vMenu.DontKickMe` / `vMenu.DontBanMe` | This player can't be kicked / banned. |
| `vMenu.NoClip` | Use NoClip. |
| `vMenu.Staff` | Open vMenu when it is set to staff only. |
| `vMenu.OnlinePlayers.Menu` | Open the Online Players menu. |
| `vMenu.OnlinePlayers.Kick` / `TempBan` / `PermBan` / `Unban` | Kick, ban for up to 30 days, ban forever, unban. |
| `vMenu.VehicleSpawner.Menu` / `vMenu.VehicleSpawner.All` | Open the Vehicle Spawner / spawn any vehicle. |
| `vMenu.PlayerAppearance.Menu` | Change clothes and character. |
| `vMenu.WeatherOptions.Menu` / `vMenu.TimeOptions.Menu` | Change the weather / time. |

The full list is in the [vMenu permissions reference](https://docs.vespura.com/vmenu/legacy/permissions/permissions/).

To give every player an option, use `builtin.everyone`:

```cfg theme={null}
add_ace builtin.everyone "vMenu.PlayerAppearance.Menu" allow
```

You can't take a `builtin.everyone` permission away from one player. To remove a permission, comment the line out with `#` and check that an `.All` permission for the same menu isn't still allowed.

## Useful vMenu settings

Put these in `permissions.cfg` (or in `server.cfg` above `ensure vMenu`):

| Setting | What it does |
| - | - |
| `setr vmenu_use_permissions true` | Turns vMenu's permission system on. Without it, admin options such as kick and ban don't work. |
| `setr vmenu_menu_staff_only true` | Only players with `vMenu.Staff` can open vMenu. |
| `setr vmenu_auto_ban_cheaters false` | When `true`, bans players who trigger vMenu events without permission. Off by default. |
| `setr vmenu_default_ban_message_information "…"` | Text added to every ban message, such as where to appeal. |

## How to update vMenu

1. [Create a backup](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/game-panel/how-to-create-and-restore-backups.md).
2. Replace the files in `resources/vMenu`, **except** the files in `resources/vMenu/config`.
3. Restart the server.

## Frequently asked questions

### Why doesn't vMenu open?

Check that the folder is called exactly `vMenu`, `fxmanifest.lua` is directly inside it and `exec @vMenu/config/permissions.cfg` comes before `ensure vMenu`. Then look for red errors in the console. See [couldn't find resource](https://help.freakhosting.com/games/fivem/fivem-couldnt-find-resource.md).

### I added myself but have no admin options. Why?

Your `add_principal` line must use the exact identifier from `status`, with `identifier.` in front. Restart after every change to `permissions.cfg` and reconnect.

### Which key opens vMenu?

Players can set the key in FiveM's key bindings settings.

### Can I install vMenu with a txAdmin recipe?

Yes. txAdmin's **Popular Recipes** include **vMenu**, but a recipe sets up the whole server. On a server that already runs, install vMenu as a resource as shown above.

### Does vMenu work with pma-voice?

Yes, but turn off vMenu's voice chat options. pma-voice doesn't work alongside other voice systems. See [FiveM voice chat](https://help.freakhosting.com/games/fivem/configuring-mumble-voice-chat.md).
