# Garry's Mod Server Commands for the Console

> Garry's Mod server commands you can run in the Game Panel console: status, changelevel, hostname, sbox_ limits, ttt_ settings and ULX admin commands.

You run Garry's Mod server commands in the **Console** of the FREAKHOSTING Game Panel: type the command without a slash and press Enter, for example `changelevel gm_construct` or `status`. Typing a setting's name, such as `sbox_maxprops`, shows its value and default. Commands typed in the console last until the next restart; to keep a setting, save it on **Game settings** or in `server.cfg`.

## How to run a command

**1. Open the console**

Open your server and click **Console**. The server must be running.

**2. Type the command**

Type the command, for example `status`, and press Enter. The panel console runs commands as the server, so you don't need RCON.

**3. Make it permanent**

To keep a value after restart, set it on **Game settings** or add it to `/garrysmod/cfg/server.cfg` under `// Add custom lines under here`.

## Common server commands

| Command | What it does | Example |

| `status` | Shows the server name, map, player count and each player's ID, name, ping and connection | `status` |
| `changelevel <map>` | Changes map without kicking players | `changelevel gm_construct` |
| `hostname "<name>"` | Changes the server name until restart | `hostname "My GMod Server"` |
| `<setting>` | Shows a setting's value and default | `sbox_maxprops` |
| `<setting> <value>` | Changes a setting until restart | `sbox_maxprops 150` |

## Sandbox settings you can use

| `sbox_godmode` | All players invincible | **God mode** |
| `sbox_noclip` | Players can noclip | **Noclip** |
| `gmod_physiterations` | Physics iteration setting | Not on the page; in `server.cfg` |
| `sv_turbophysics` | Players can't push props by walking into them | Not on the page; add to `server.cfg` |

No admin mod is preinstalled. Install [ULX](https://help.freakhosting.com/games/garrys-mod/configuring-ulx-admin-mod.md) for kick, ban and other admin commands in game.

## Frequently asked questions

### How do I change map on my GMod server?

Type `changelevel <mapname>` in the console, without `.bsp`. To change the map the server starts on, set **Start map** on **Game settings**.

### Why does my setting reset after a restart?

Console changes are temporary. The server loads `server.cfg` and **Game settings** values at every start. Save the setting there.

### Do I need an RCON password?

Not for the panel console. You only need **RCON password** (on **Game settings**) if you use an external RCON tool. Use a long password; anyone with it controls the server.

### Can players run these commands?

Server settings are changed from the server console. To give trusted players commands in game, install an admin mod such as ULX and add them to a group.
