# Garry's Mod Server Not Showing in the Server List: Fixes

> Garry's Mod server not showing in the server list? Add a Steam game server token (App ID 4000), keep LAN only off, check Region and join by IP meanwhile.

If your Garry's Mod server isn't showing in the server list, add a Steam game server token (GSLT) on **Game settings**. Without one, the server logs in anonymously and ranks much lower in the list. Also check that **LAN only** is off and the server has finished starting (`VAC secure mode is activated.` in the console). Players can always join directly with `connect 203.0.113.10:27015`.

## How to add a Steam game server token

**1. Create the token**

Log in at [steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers](https://steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers). Enter App ID **4000** (Garry's Mod) and a memo such as your server name, then create the token. Your Steam account must meet Steam's requirements to create tokens.

**2. Paste it on Game settings**

Open **Game settings**, find **Steam game server token** under **Start-up** and paste the 32-character token. It is the same as **Steam Account Token** on **Startup**.

**3. Save and restart**

Save and [restart the server](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/game-panel/how-to-start-stop-and-restart-your-game-server.md). The console no longer shows "No account token specified".

Use one token per server. The Garry's Mod wiki warns that sharing a token between servers causes disconnects.

## What do the console messages mean?

| Console line | Meaning |
| - | - |
| `No account token specified; logging into anonymous game server account.` | No token is set |
| `Server ranking in server browser will be negatively impacted due to sv_setsteamaccount not being set.` | The server will rank lower in the list |
| `Connection to Steam servers successful.` | The server reached Steam |
| `VAC secure mode is activated.` | The server is ready |

## How to join without the server list

* **Console:** in Garry's Mod, open the developer console and type `connect 203.0.113.10:27015` with your server's address and port from the panel.
* **Steam favourites:** add the address to your Steam server favourites and join from there.

## Frequently asked questions

### Why did my server stop starting after I added a token?

An invalid or expired token stops the server from starting. Check you copied all 32 characters, or create a new token. Changing your Steam password makes all your tokens invalid; regenerate them on the same Steam page.

### Is a token required to play?

No. Players can join by address without one. The token gives your server a stable identity and better ranking in the list.

### How long until my server appears in the list?

It needs to be running and connected to Steam. If players still can't find it, they can search by name or join by address.
