# KF2 Server Not Showing in the Server Browser: How to Fix It

> KF2 server not showing in the server browser or you can't connect? Check the ready line, start a new server twice, clear filters and join with open.

If your Killing Floor 2 server isn't showing in the server browser, first check **Console** for `DevOnline: Steam Servers Connected`: that line means the server is online and registered with Steam. Then search for the right name (a new server shows its real name only from the second start), clear the browser filters, or join directly with `open 203.0.113.10:7777` in the game console.

| Check | Where |
| - | - |
| Server is ready | **Console**: `DevOnline: Steam Servers Connected` |
| Address | **Overview** > **ADDRESS** |
| Name | **Server Name** on **Startup** (start a new server twice) |
| Join directly | `open <address>` in the game console |

## Fixes for a KF2 server that doesn't show up

1. **Wait for the ready line.** Open **Console**. The server is ready when you see `DevOnline: Steam Servers Connected` and a `Server data:` line with the name, map and slots. Until then, it isn't listed.
2. **Start a new server twice.** On the very first start the server uses the game's default name, `Killing Floor 2 Server`. Stop it and start it again, and it uses your **Server Name**.
3. **Search for the exact name.** Copy the name from **Server Name** on **Startup**, or look at the `Server data:` line in **Console**.
4. **Clear the filters.** Filters in the in-game browser can hide your server, for example the filter for servers without seasonal Zeds. Reset the filters and search again.
5. **Join by address.** Copy the address from **Overview**, open the game console and type `open 203.0.113.10:7777` with your own address. If this works, the server is fine and only the browser listing is the problem.
6. **Update your game.** With **Auto Update** on, the server updates itself at every start. Make sure your game is up to date on Steam too.
7. **Check the map.** If **Map Name** is a Workshop map that hasn't downloaded, the server can't load it. Set **Map Name** to `kf-bioticslab` and restart.

## Which ports does a KF2 server use?

| Port | Use | Example |
| - | - | - |
| Game port | Players connect to it | `7777` |
| **Query Port** | Steam server browser queries | `27015` |
| **Web Admin Port** | WebAdmin, when switched on | Shown on **Startup** |

Your own ports are shown on **Startup** and in **Network**. They are set by us, so you don't need to change them. See [network and subdomains](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/game-panel/how-to-manage-network-and-subdomains.md).

> [!NOTE]
>
> Repeated `DevNet: CleanUp: clean up connection` lines in the console are normal. They come from internet scanners that touch the port, not from your players.

## Frequently asked questions

### Why can I join by address but not find it in the list?

The server works. Check the browser filters and the exact name. Until the listing shows it, keep joining with `open` and your address.

### Players get "connection failed". What should I check?

Check that the server shows as running and that the console has the ready line. Make sure players use the game port from **Overview**, not the **Query Port**. If you use a DDoS filter, see [DDoS filters](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/firewall/how-to-apply-ddos-filters.md).

### Does a password hide my server?

No. A password-protected server is still listed, but players need the password to join. See [server password](https://help.freakhosting.com/games/killing-floor-2/setting-a-server-password.md).
