# How to Set a Server Password in KF2

> Set a join password on your KF2 dedicated server to restrict access to invited players only and keep your private matches secure from random joiners.

> By default, Killing Floor 2 servers are open to the public. If you are running a private match or training for a tournament, you must apply a password. Additionally, managing the "Takeover" mode is essential to prevent random lobbies from "hijacking" your dedicated instance.

## 1. Setting the Join Password

1. Open your `PCServer-KFGame.ini` file via the File Manager.
2. Locate the variable `GamePassword=`.
3. Enter your desired password (e.g., `GamePassword=Secret123`).
4. Restart the server.

## 2. Disabling Takeover Mode

In the "Matchmaking" world of KF2, random groups can "Take Over" empty servers to play their own custom games. If you want your server to remain *exclusively* yours:

1. In the same `.ini` file, find `bUsedForTakeover=`.
2. Set this to `false`.
3. This prevents the server from being used by the public matchmaking system, ensuring your configuration is never overwritten by a lobby host.
