# How to Get a RedM License Key (Cfx.re Portal, ex-Keymaster)

> How to get a free RedM license key: register a server on portal.cfx.re (Keymaster's replacement), copy the key and paste it into Startup on FREAKHOSTING.

A RedM licence key (server registration key) is free. Sign in at [portal.cfx.re](https://portal.cfx.re), register a new server, generate a key and copy it. On FREAKHOSTING, paste it into **Keymaster RedM License Key** on the **Startup** page and restart. The panel writes it into `server.cfg` as `sv_licenseKey` every time the server starts.

## Before you start

* A Cfx.re account. You can create one when you sign in to the Portal.

## How to get a RedM licence key

**1. Sign in to the Cfx.re Portal**

Go to [portal.cfx.re](https://portal.cfx.re) and sign in with your Cfx.re account.

**2. Register a server**

Open the server registration keys page and register a new server. Fill in the form, then generate the key.

**3. Copy the key**

Open the server you registered and copy its key. Your keys are listed on the Portal's server registration keys page.

> Treat your licence key like a password. Don't post it on Discord, in screenshots or in shared files. If someone else gets it, create a new key on the Portal and replace the old one.

## How to add the key to your RedM server

**1. Open Startup**

Open your server in the [Game Panel](https://games.freakhosting.com) and click **Startup** in the sidebar.

**2. Paste the key**

Replace the placeholder in **Keymaster RedM License Key** with your key, then click outside the field. It saves on its own.

**3. Restart the server**

Click **Restart**. The server checks the key with Cfx.re as it starts.

**4. Check the console**

Click **Console**. If the key is accepted, the server keeps running and there is no "license key" error. If the error still shows, copy the key again from the Portal without spaces.

> The **Server config** check suggests adding a `set sv_licenseKey` line to the raw file. On FREAKHOSTING, use **Startup** instead: the panel writes the key from **Keymaster RedM License Key** into `server.cfg` at every start, so a line you type by hand is replaced.

## What happened to Keymaster?

Cfx.re replaced Keymaster with the Cfx.re Portal. The console error and the Cfx.re documentation both point to [portal.cfx.re](https://portal.cfx.re/servers/registration-keys) for keys. The **Startup** variable keeps its old name, **Keymaster RedM License Key**, and its description still links Keymaster; paste your Portal key there.

## Is one key for FiveM and RedM?

A key is registered on the same Portal for both games. Create a separate key for each server, so you can replace one without affecting the others.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is a RedM licence key free?

Yes. Registering a server and generating a key costs nothing. You only pay Cfx.re for Element Club perks, such as more than 48 slots.

### What happens without a licence key?

The server stops while it starts. The console shows "This server does not have a license key specified", and the panel reports a crash. See [RedM server not starting](https://help.freakhosting.com/games/redm/redm-server-not-starting.md).

### Where do I put the key when I use txAdmin?

Put it in **Startup** as well, and paste the same key when txAdmin's setup asks for it. See [how to set up txAdmin](https://help.freakhosting.com/games/redm/how-to-set-up-txadmin-on-redm.md).

### My key worked before I moved servers. What now?

Generate a new key on the Portal and paste it into **Startup**. Then restart the server.
