# Satisfactory Server Settings Explained: Panel and Server Manager

> Every Satisfactory server setting explained: autosaves, timeouts, internet speed, branch and updates in the Game Panel, plus what lives in the Server Manager.

Satisfactory server settings live in two places. The FREAKHOSTING Game Panel's **Game settings** page covers the settings stored in files and startup settings: **Autosaves to keep**, connection timeouts, internet speed, crash reports, automatic updates and **Game branch**. The server name, admin and player passwords, autosave interval, auto pause and network quality are set in the game's **Server Manager** under **Server Settings**.

| Fact | Value |
| - | - |
| Panel page | **Game settings** under **GAME SETTINGS** |
| Sections | **Server**, **Network**, **Updates and reports** |
| Presets | **Patient connections**, **Keep more autosaves** |
| Files changed | Startup variables and `Engine.ini` in `FactoryGame/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/` |
| Apply changes | Restart the server |

## How to change a setting on the Game settings page

**1. Open Game settings**

Open your server in the [Game Panel](https://games.freakhosting.com) and click **Game settings** under **GAME SETTINGS**. Use **Search settings** to find a setting, or **Changed** to see only the ones you changed.

**2. Change the value**

Edit the setting. Click **Show advanced settings** to see the three advanced ones.

**3. Review and save**

Click save. The **Review your changes** dialog shows each change: startup settings under **Startup settings (the Startup page)**, file settings as an `Engine.ini` change. Click **Save changes**. The old `Engine.ini` is kept as `Engine.ini.bak`.

**4. Restart**

[Restart the server](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/game-panel/how-to-start-stop-and-restart-your-game-server.md). The server reads these settings when it starts.

## Server settings

| Setting | What it does | Value on a new server |
| - | - | - |
| **Player slots** | How many players can be online at once. Fixed by your hosting plan. | 4 (locked) |
| **Autosaves to keep** | How many rotating autosave files are kept. When a new one is made, the oldest is deleted. | 3 |

## Network settings

| Setting | What it does | Value on a new server |
| - | - | - |
| **Time to connect** | Seconds a new connection may take before it is dropped. Raise it for players with slow computers or connections. | 30 seconds |
| **Time before a silent player is dropped** | Seconds an established connection may be silent before it times out. | 20 seconds |
| **Internet speed per player** (advanced) | The network speed the server assumes for each player on the internet, in bytes per second. Big factories need more; `104857600` is a common choice. | 120000 |
| **LAN speed per player** (advanced) | The same for players on the local network. | 130000 |

The two speed settings are standard Unreal Engine network settings that server owners use for Satisfactory. They are not listed on the official Satisfactory pages. See [belt stutter and network quality](https://help.freakhosting.com/games/satisfactory/changing-server-quality-settings-for-belts-satisfactory.md).

## Updates and reports

| Setting | What it does | Value on a new server |
| - | - | - |
| **Send crash reports** (advanced) | On Linux the server sends crash reports to the developers by default. Turn it off to stop that. | On |
| **Update the server automatically** | The server updates itself at every start. | On |
| **Game branch** | Which version of the game the server runs: **Stable**, **Public** or **Experimental**. | Stable |

Switching branch needs the server to be updated or reinstalled, and a save from a newer branch cannot be loaded by an older one. See [experimental branch](https://help.freakhosting.com/games/satisfactory/switching-to-the-satisfactory-experimental-branch.md).

## What do the presets do?

A preset fills in several settings at once. Nothing is saved until you review and save.

| Preset | Description |
| - | - |
| **Patient connections** | Longer timeouts for players with slow connections. |
| **Keep more autosaves** | Ten rotating autosaves. |

## Settings in the Server Manager

Open Satisfactory, go to **Server Manager**, select your server and open **Server Settings**. You need the admin password.

| Setting | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Server Name** | The name shown in the Server Manager. |
| **Player Password Protection** | Players need a password to join (**Change Password**). |
| **Auto-Load Session Name** | The session whose most recent save loads when the server starts. |
| **Auto Pause** | Pauses the game when no players are connected. |
| **Auto-Save on Player Disconnect** | Saves the game when a player leaves. |
| **Autosave Interval** | Minutes between autosaves. |
| **Server Restart Interval** | The time of day the server restarts, for example 06:00. |
| **Network Quality** | Higher values may improve load times and network performance for players, at the cost of server frame rate. |
| **Send Gameplay Data** | Untick to stop sending gameplay data to Coffee Stain Studios. |
