# How to Whitelist Players on Your SCP: Secret Laboratory Server

> How to whitelist players on SCP: Secret Laboratory: turn on Whitelist in Game settings, add SteamID64@steam lines to UserIDWhitelist.txt and restart.

To whitelist players on a FREAKHOSTING SCP: Secret Laboratory server, turn on **Whitelist** in **Security and anti-cheat** on **Game settings** (the `enable_whitelist` setting) and save. Then add each player's SteamID64 with `@steam`, one per line, to `UserIDWhitelist.txt` in the same folder as `config_gameplay.txt`, and restart. Only listed players can join.

## Before you start

* Start the server once and accept the EULA, so the config folder exists.
* Collect the SteamID64 (a 17-digit number starting with `7656`) of every player, including yourself.

## How to turn on the whitelist

**1. Open Game settings**

Click **Game settings** under **GAME SETTINGS** and find **Security and anti-cheat**. Type `whitelist` in **Search settings** to jump to it.

**2. Turn on Whitelist**

Switch on **Whitelist** ("Only players on the whitelist can join."). Click **Review and save** and save.

**3. Open the config folder**

Click **Files** and open `.config/SCP Secret Laboratory/config/<port>/`, the folder for your server's port.

**4. Edit UserIDWhitelist.txt**

Open `UserIDWhitelist.txt`. If it isn't there, create a new file with that exact name. Add one player per line:

Lines starting with `#` are comments. Discord accounts use the Discord user ID with `@discord`.

**5. Restart**

Save the file and [restart the server](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/game-panel/how-to-start-stop-and-restart-your-game-server.md).

## How to remove someone from the whitelist

Delete their line from `UserIDWhitelist.txt`, save and restart. To open the server to everyone again, switch **Whitelist** off on **Game settings** and save.

## Frequently asked questions

### Why can't a whitelisted player join?

Check that the line has the full SteamID64 and ends with `@steam`, with no spaces. Check you edited the file in your port's folder, and restart after saving.

### Is a whitelist the same as a password?

No. `config_gameplay.txt` has no join password setting, so the whitelist is the way to keep an SCP:SL server private.

### Can whitelisted players skip geoblocking?

Yes, by default. `geoblocking_ignore_whitelisted` is `true` in `config_gameplay.txt`.

### Will my server still be on the server list?

Whitelisted servers can be listed when verified, and players can hide whitelisted games with a filter in the server browser. See [not showing in the list](https://help.freakhosting.com/games/scp-secret-laboratory/scp-secret-laboratory-server-not-showing-in-list.md).
