# How to Download Your Terraria Server World

> Download your Terraria server world from FREAKHOSTING: save or stop the server, open Files > saves/Worlds and download the .wld file to play or back it up.

To download your Terraria server world from FREAKHOSTING, type `save` in the **Console** or stop the server, then open **Files**, go to `/saves/Worlds` and download `<World name>.wld`. Put the file in your Terraria worlds folder (on Windows, `Documents\My Games\Terraria\Worlds`) to play it in single player, view it in a map viewer or keep it as a backup.

| Difficulty | Time | Works on | Panel pages |
| - | - | - | - |
| Beginner | 2 minutes | Every FREAKHOSTING Terraria server | **Console**, **Files** |

## How to download the world

**1. Save the world**

Type `save` in the [Console](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/game-panel/how-to-use-the-server-console.md), or [stop the server](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/game-panel/how-to-start-stop-and-restart-your-game-server.md). Either way the file on disk has the latest changes.

**2. Open saves/Worlds**

Click **Files** and open `saves`, then `Worlds`.

**3. Download the .wld file**

Find the file named after your **World name**, for example `world.wld`, and download it with the [File Manager](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/game-panel/how-to-use-the-file-manager.md). For a large world you can also use [SFTP](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/game-panel/how-to-connect-via-sftp.md).

**4. Copy it into your worlds folder**

On Windows, put the file in `Documents\My Games\Terraria\Worlds`. It shows up in Terraria's world list.

## Which files are in saves/Worlds?

| File | What it is |
| - | - |
| `<World name>.wld` | The world itself. This is the file you need |
| `<World name>.wld.bak` | An older copy the server keeps |

Not sure which world the server uses? Check **World name** in **Game settings** or `worldname=` in `serverconfig.txt`.

## Download or panel backup?

| Method | Best for |
| - | - |
| Download the `.wld` | Playing the world on your PC, editing it, viewing its map |
| [Panel backup](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/game-panel/how-to-create-and-restore-backups.md) | A full copy of the server you can restore with one click |

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I play my server world in single player?

Yes. Copy the `.wld` file into your worlds folder and pick it in single player. A Journey world still needs a Journey character.

### Why is my downloaded world missing the latest builds?

The world was downloaded before it was saved. Type `save` in the Console and download it again.

### Can I view my server world's map?

Yes. Open the downloaded `.wld` in a map viewer such as TerraMap. See [seed and map viewer](https://help.freakhosting.com/games/terraria/seed-map-viewer-terramap.md).
