# How to Use a World Seed on Your Terraria Server

> Use a world seed on your Terraria server: type a seed or special seed such as for the worthy into World seed for a new world name, save and start.

To use a world seed on your FREAKHOSTING Terraria server, open **Game settings**, expand **New world**, type the seed into **World seed**, enter a new **World name**, choose size and difficulty, click **Review and save** and start the server. The seed only applies when a world is created. Special seeds work the same way: type the code, for example `for the worthy`.

## What is a Terraria world seed?

A seed is the value the game uses to generate a world. Two worlds made with the same seed, size, evil biome and special seeds are almost identical. Leave **World seed** empty and the server picks a random one.

### How to read a seed

Terraria shows a full seed as five parts separated by dots: `size.difficulty.evil.special.identifier`.

| Difficulty | 1 Classic, 2 Expert, 3 Master, 4 Journey |
| Evil biome | 1 Corruption, 2 Crimson |
| Special seeds | The sum of the active special seeds (0 for none) |
| Identifier | The random number that drives generation |

To copy the seed of a world on your PC, hover over **Copy Seed** in the world selection menu and click it.

## How to set a seed on your server

**1. Open Game settings**

Open your server in the [Game Panel](https://games.freakhosting.com) and click **Game settings** under **GAME SETTINGS**.

**2. Expand New world**

Click **New world**.

**3. Enter a new World name**

Type a name that doesn't exist yet. An existing world keeps the seed it was made with.

**4. Type the seed**

Enter the seed in **World seed** ("Leave empty for a random world, or type a seed to get the same world as someone else."). The field takes up to 20 characters. Choose **World size** and **World difficulty** to match the seed you want to copy.

**5. Save and start**

Click **Review and save**, then **Save changes**, and restart the server. The world is generated with your seed.

## Special seed codes

| Special seed | Code to type | What you get |
| - | - | - |
| Drunk | `5162020` | Corruption and Crimson in one world |
| Not the Bees | `not the bees` | A honey-filled world full of bees |
| For the Worthy | `for the worthy` | A much harsher world |
| Celebration Mk 10 | `celebrationmk10` | A colourful anniversary world |
| The Constant | `the constant` | A Don't Starve Together style world with hunger |
| No Traps | `no traps` | A world with traps removed |
| Remix | `dont dig up` | An inverted world where up is down |
| Zenith | `get fixed boi` | Combines the other special seeds |
| Skyblock | `skyblock` | Start on floating sky islands |

The game ignores capitals and punctuation in these codes. Typed codes give one special seed at a time. Since version 1.4.5, the in-game Seed Menu combines several, but that menu only exists when you create a world in the game. To combine special seeds, create the world in single player and [upload it](https://help.freakhosting.com/games/terraria/uploading-a-custom-terraria-world.md).

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I change the seed of an existing world?

No. The seed is only used when the world is generated. Create a new world with a new **World name**.

### Why is my seeded world different from my friend's?

Size, difficulty, evil biome and special seeds must match too. Copy the full seed from the world selection menu and match **World size** and **World difficulty**.

### What are secret seeds?

Version 1.4.5 added secret seeds that stay hidden until someone discovers them. Create such a world in the game and upload it.

### How do I see the map before I play?
