# Terraria Server Console Commands and Admin (Full List)

> Every vanilla Terraria server console command: kick, ban, save, exit, password, motd, say, dawn and more. Vanilla has no admin rank; use the panel Console.

Vanilla Terraria has no in-game admin or operator rank. You manage the server by typing commands into the server console, which is the **Console** page in the FREAKHOSTING Game Panel. Commands have no leading slash: type `kick PlayerName`, `ban PlayerName`, `save`, `exit` or `dawn`. Type `help` to list them all. For in-game admin commands you need TShock.

| Difficulty | Time | Works on | Panel page |
| - | - | - | - |
| Beginner | 2 minutes | Every FREAKHOSTING Terraria server | **Console** |

## How to run a command

**1. Open the Console**

Open your server in the [Game Panel](https://games.freakhosting.com) and click **Console**. The server must be running (`Server started` in the output).

**2. Type the command**

Type the command without a slash, for example `playing`, and press Enter.

**3. Read the reply**

The answer appears in the console output.

## Do console changes last?

`password` and `motd` changes only last until the next start. Our server writes the **Startup** values into `serverconfig.txt` every time it starts. To keep a change, save it in **Game settings**. See [server settings explained](https://help.freakhosting.com/games/terraria/terraria-server-settings-explained.md).

## How to get admin commands in game

Vanilla Terraria has no way to give a player admin rights in the game. If you need in-game commands, groups and permissions, that is what TShock adds. Your server runs vanilla Terraria, so see [install TShock](https://help.freakhosting.com/games/terraria/how-to-install-tshock-on-terraria.md) for how to get it.

To let a friend manage the server, add them as a sub-user in the panel with [Users](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/game-panel/how-to-manage-sub-users.md) so they can use the **Console**.

## Frequently asked questions

### How do I make myself admin on a Terraria server?

There is no admin rank in vanilla. You are in control through the panel **Console**. In-game admin needs TShock.

### Why does my command do nothing in game chat?

Server commands work in the console, not in game chat. Type them in the panel **Console** without a slash.

### How do I unban a player?

Remove their line from `banlist.txt`. See [bans and guests](https://help.freakhosting.com/games/terraria/managing-bans-and-guests-in-terraria.md).

### Can I spawn items or bosses with a command?

Not in vanilla Terraria. Journey mode lets players duplicate researched items, and TShock adds commands such as `/give` and `/spawnboss`.
