# How to Configure World Modifiers in Valheim

> Apply world modifiers on your Valheim server to disable the map, remove portals, enable hardcore permadeath, or adjust resource costs for custom gameplay.

> World Modifiers allow you to fundamentally change the rules of your Valheim server without installing complex mods. These settings apply globally to all players and are initialized during the server startup process.

## Popular Modifiers

Add these strings to your **Startup Arguments** in the FREAKHOSTING panel to activate them:

### 1. Hardcore Mode (No Guidance)

* **`-modifier map false`**: Disables the minimap and the main map entirely. Players must navigate by celestial bodies and landmarks.
* **`-modifier portals none`**: Disables all portal functionality, forcing players to use ships and land routes for travel.

### 2. Creative Mode (Hammer Mode)

* **`-modifier buildcost 0`**: All building and crafting recipes require zero materials. Perfect for "Creative Only" community builds.

### 3. Resource Scaling

* **`-modifier resources 2`**: Doubles materials gained from gathering and mining.
* **`-modifier resources 3`**: Triples all drops for a "Super-Fast" progression experience.
