# How to Change Your Game Panel Password

> Update your FREAKHOSTING Game Panel password and email address to keep your account secure. Follow the steps from your account settings in the control panel.

## Keep Your Account Locked Down

Your Game Panel password is the key to every game server on your account. If it is weak, reused from another site, or has been floating around in a data breach, now is the time to change it. The same goes for your email address -- if you have switched inboxes or want a more secure one tied to your account, you can update that too.

Both options live on the **Account** page at [games.freakhosting.com](https://games.freakhosting.com), and they take less than a minute to complete.

## Getting to the Account Page

Before you can change anything, you need to reach the Account settings.

  <Step title="Log In to the Game Panel">
    Open your browser and go to [games.freakhosting.com](https://games.freakhosting.com). Enter your email and password, then click **Login**.

    Click your **Account** link (with your avatar icon) in the **top-right corner** of the navigation bar. This takes you to the Account page where all your profile settings live.

## Changing Your Password

The **Update Password** section sits on the **right side** of the Account page. This is where you swap your current password for a new one.

    In the **Current Password** field, type the password you are using right now. The panel needs this to verify it is actually you making the change.

  <Step title="Choose a New Password">
    In the **New Password** field, type your new password. The panel requires it to be **at least 8 characters in length** and recommends it be **unique to this website**. A strong password mixes uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.

    <Tip>
      Use a password manager like Bitwarden or 1Password to generate and store a truly random password. Something like `G7#kL9$mPx2!` is far stronger than `MyServer2026` -- and you will never have to remember it.

  <Step title="Confirm the New Password">
    Re-type your new password in the **Confirm New Password** field. This must match exactly what you entered above -- the panel will not let you proceed if there is a mismatch.

  <Step title="Click Update Password">
    Hit the green **Update Password** button. If everything checks out, your password is changed immediately. You will stay logged in on your current session, but any other active sessions will require the new password.

  After changing your password, update it in your password manager right away. If you forget the new password and have not saved it anywhere, you will need to use the **Forgot Password?** link on the login page to reset it via email.

## Updating Your Email Address

The **Update Email** section sits on the **left side** of the Account page, directly above the Appearance settings. This changes the email address tied to your Game Panel account -- the one you use to log in and receive password reset emails.

    In the **Email** field, type the new email address you want associated with your account. Make sure it is an inbox you actually have access to -- you will need it if you ever have to reset your password.

  <Step title="Confirm Your Password">
    In the **Confirm Password** field, type your **current** account password. This prevents anyone who happens to be at your keyboard from changing your email without authorization.

  <Step title="Click Update Email">
    Hit the teal **Update Email** button. Your login email is updated immediately. From now on, use the new email address to sign in.

  Changing your email here only affects the **Game Panel** at games.freakhosting.com. It does not change your email in the billing panel at freakhosting.com/clientarea or any other FREAKHOSTING service. Those are separate accounts with separate credentials.

## Adjusting Appearance Settings

While you are on the Account page, you will notice an **Appearance** section below the Update Email area. It has two options:

    A dropdown menu that lets you change the language of the Game Panel interface. The default is **English**, but other languages are available if you prefer to navigate in a different language.

    A toggle switch for **Off** and **On**. When enabled, the panel plays notification sounds for certain events. If you find them distracting, flip the toggle to **Off**.

## Password Best Practices

Keeping your account secure goes beyond just picking a password. Here are a few habits that make a real difference:

| Use a unique password for the Game Panel | If another site you use gets breached, your game servers are not affected                                      |
| Make it at least 12 characters           | Longer passwords are exponentially harder to crack, even beyond the 8-character minimum                        |
| Enable two-factor authentication         | Adds a second layer of security beyond your password (see the two-factor authentication article)               |
| Never share your password                | Not with friends, not with server admins, not in Discord DMs                                                   |
| Change it if you suspect a compromise    | If anything feels off -- unexpected logins, settings changing on their own -- change your password immediately |

    Make sure you are entering the **new** password, not the old one. If you used a password manager, verify it saved the updated entry. If all else fails, use the **Forgot Password?** link on the login page to reset it via email.

    No. Updating your email does not end your current session. You will stay logged in, but the next time you sign in, you will need to use the new email address.

    Technically yes, but we strongly recommend against it. Using unique passwords for each service means a compromise on one does not affect the other.

  <Accordion title="Is the 8-character minimum really enough?">
    It is the minimum the panel enforces, but longer is always better. Aim for 12 or more characters with a mix of character types. A password manager makes this effortless.

  <Accordion title="Does changing my password here affect my billing panel login?">
    No. The Game Panel at **games.freakhosting.com** and the billing panel at **freakhosting.com/clientarea** are completely separate systems with independent credentials.
