# How to Read Your Game Server's Logs and Find Errors

> Use the Logs page in the FREAKHOSTING Game Panel to open your server's log files, jump to errors, search, follow new lines live and copy a safe extract for support.

The **Logs** page helps you find out why your server stopped or isn't working properly. It opens your server's log files and highlights warnings and errors, so you don't have to scroll through thousands of lines.

## Open the logs

Open your server from the [dashboard](https://games.freakhosting.com), then click **Logs** in the sidebar.

The panel looks for log files in your server's main folder, in the `logs` and `crash-reports` folders and, for FiveM servers with txAdmin, in `txData`.

If you see **No logs yet**, start your server once. Its log files then show up here. Some games keep their logs in other folders. You can still open those in the [file manager](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/game-panel/how-to-use-the-file-manager.md).

## The log viewer

The log viewer

The line under **Logs** shows the open file, its size and how many lines it has.

| Control | What it does |
| - | - |
| **File picker** | Choose which log file to open. Each file shows its size and when it last changed. |
| **Search this log** | Find text in the log. Use the up and down arrows to jump between matches. Click **Aa** to match upper and lower case exactly. |
| **Fatal, Error, Warn, Info, Debug** | How many lines of each kind the log has. Click one to show only those lines. |
| **Errors and what is around them** | Shows only errors, with the lines just before and after, so you can see what led to them. |
| **First error / Last error** | Jump straight to the first or last error. |
| **Wrap lines** | Wrap long lines so you don't have to scroll sideways. |
| **Fold stack traces** | Folds long blocks of technical error detail into one line. It is on by default. |
| **Follow** | Keeps the view at the bottom and shows new lines as they are written. |
| **Copy for support** | Copies the log to your clipboard, with passwords, keys and addresses removed. |
| **Download** | Saves the log file to your computer. |
| **Refresh** | Reloads the list of log files. |

>
> How a line is labelled depends on how your game writes its log. If a line isn't counted as an error, search for words like `error`, `exception` or `failed` instead.

## Find out why your server crashed

**1. Open the newest log**

Pick the most recent file in the file picker. If there is a crash report, open that.

**2. Jump to the problem**

Click **Last error**, or click the **Error** or **Fatal** counter.

**3. Look at the lines around it**

Click **Errors and what is around them**. The lines before an error often name the plugin, mod or file that caused it.

**4. Ask for help if you're stuck**

Click **Copy for support**, then [open a ticket](https://freakhosting.com/clientarea/submitticket.php) and paste it in. You can also use **Share log** in the [console](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/game-panel/how-to-use-the-server-console.md#share-your-log) to send a link.

## Troubleshooting

> **It says No logs yet, but my server has run**
>
> Your game may write its logs to a folder the panel doesn't check. Open the [file manager](https://help.freakhosting.com/portals/game-panel/how-to-use-the-file-manager.md) and look for a `logs` folder inside your game's folder.

> **The log doesn't show the newest lines**
>
> Click **Refresh**, or switch on **Follow** to see new lines as they arrive.
