How to Add or Edit DNS Records - Web Control Panel
How to Add or Edit DNS Records at FREAKHOSTING
Welcome to FREAKHOSTING's step-by-step guide on adding or editing DNS records in our intuitive Web Control Panel. Managing DNS records is crucial for ensuring that your domain is configured correctly for services like website hosting, email, and other internet protocols. Follow this guide to easily add, edit, or manage your DNS records using our panel at https://web.freakhosting.com.
DNS (Domain Name System) is the backbone of the internet, translating human-friendly domain names (like example.com) into IP addresses that computers use to identify each other on the network. Managing your DNS settings allows you to control how your domain is connected to web services such as hosting and email.
Log into the FREAKHOSTING Web Panel
Go to https://web.freakhosting.com and enter your credentials to access the Web control panel.
Navigate to the 'Domains' Section
Once logged in, on the top menu, find the option called 'Domains'. Click on the domain name you wish to manage DNS records for.
Access DNS Settings
After selecting the domain, click on 'DNS records' to show the DNS management interface. This is where you can view, add, or modify DNS records for your domain.
Click 'Add Record'
At the top of the DNS management screen, click the 'Add Record' button.
Choose the Record Type
You will be presented with a list of record types. The most common ones are:
- A Record: Points your domain to an IP address (e.g., your web server).
- CNAME Record: Redirects a domain or subdomain to another domain (alias).
- MX Record: Specifies the mail servers responsible for receiving email for your domain.
- TXT Record: Used for adding SPF, DKIM, or other text-based records for domain verification.
- AAAA Record: Similar to an A record but for IPv6 addresses.
Enter Record Details
After selecting the record type, you will need to enter the relevant details:
- Name: The domain or subdomain (e.g., www, mail, etc.).
- Content: The value (e.g., IP address, CNAME target, etc.).
- TTL: Time-to-live, which dictates how long the record is cached (300 seconds by default is usually fine).
Save Changes
Once you've entered all the required information, click 'Save' to create the DNS record. It will be added to the DNS list and should propagate within a few minutes, depending on your TTL value.
Locate the Record
In the DNS management screen, you’ll see a list of existing DNS records. Find the record you want to modify.
Click 'Edit'
Next to each record, there will be an 'Edit' button. Click on it to open the record’s details.
Modify the Details
Update the fields that need changing (e.g., IP address, CNAME destination, etc.).
Save Your Changes
Once you've made the necessary changes, click 'Save' to update the DNS record.
Find the Record to Delete
Similar to editing, locate the record you want to delete in the DNS management screen.
Click 'Delete'
Next to the 'Edit' button, you will see a 'Delete' option. Click this to remove the record from your DNS settings.
Confirm the Deletion
A confirmation prompt will appear. Click 'Yes' to confirm that you want to delete the record. Be cautious, as deleting certain records (like MX or A records) could disrupt your website or email services.
Important Tips:
- Propagation Time: Changes to DNS records take time to propagate across the internet. This can vary from a few minutes to 24 hours, depending on the TTL (Time-to-Live) and the global DNS caches.
- Backup Your DNS Records: Before making significant changes, it’s a good practice to note down or export your current DNS records in case you need to revert changes.
- Correct Record Types: Always double-check you are using the correct type of DNS record for your intended purpose. For instance, use MX for mail routing and A or CNAME for website redirects.
