If your Counter-Strike 1.6 server isn’t showing in the server list, first check it is running and that LAN only is off in Game settings (sv_lan 0). Then search the Internet tab for your exact Server name. You can always skip the list: add the address from the Console page, such as 203.0.113.10:27015, to Steam Favorites, or type connect 203.0.113.10:27015 in the game console.

Check LAN only

Open Game settings under GAME SETTINGS. In Security and downloads, LAN only must be off. “With LAN mode on, players on the internet cannot join.”

Save and restart

If you changed it, click Review and save, Save changes and restart the server.

Wait for the listing

Watch the console until Connection to Steam servers successful. appears. Give the server list a few minutes to pick it up.

Search by name

In the game, open Find Servers, choose Internet and filter by your server’s name. The list is long, so searching is faster than scrolling.

Join without the server list

The server list isn’t needed to play:
  • Game console: press ~ and type connect 203.0.113.10:27015.
  • Steam favourites: in Steam, open View > Game Servers > Favorites, click Add a server, enter the address and connect. The server then stays in your list.
  • Share the address: copy it from the Copy address card on the Console page and send it to your players.
If players can’t join even with the address, see can’t connect.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take for a CS 1.6 server to appear in the list?

Usually a few minutes after it has started. It doesn’t affect who can join: anyone with the address can connect straight away.

Does a password hide my server from the list?

No. A server with Server password set can still be listed; players need the password to join.

Can I hide my server from the list?

Don’t use LAN only for that: with it on, players on the internet can’t join at all. Set a Server password instead so only your players can join. See server and RCON password.
