config.json is the open.mp server’s settings file. It sets the server name, password, listing, game modes, plugins, RCON, logging and game rules such as weather and gravity. On FREAKHOSTING, the Game settings page in the Game Panel edits it for you and shows each key as a plain-English field. Changes apply after a restart.

Server and listing keys

For more player slots, open a ticket. The port (network.port) is set by FREAKHOSTING to match your server’s address on Overview; don’t change it.

Game mode and plugin keys (pawn)

See install a gamemode and plugins and components.

RCON keys

See RCON commands and admin login.

Logging keys

Common game rule keys

Many gamemodes set their own time, weather and rules from the script, which overrides these values.

Is server.cfg still used?

open.mp can still read server.cfg, but its documentation recommends config.json because it has more settings. Your FREAKHOSTING server uses config.json, so make changes in Game settings.

Frequently asked questions

Where is config.json?

In the main folder of your server, next to omp-server. Open it in Files or with the link at the bottom of Game settings.

Why are my game rules ignored?

Your gamemode can set time, weather, name tags and more in its script, which overrides config.json. Change the script, or ask its author.

Can I change settings while the server runs?

Some values can be changed temporarily with RCON commands such as /rcon weather 10, but they reset at the next restart. Saved changes in Game settings apply after a restart.

What happens if config.json has a typo?

Game settings always writes valid JSON for you. If you edited the raw file and the server no longer starts or ignores your settings, check for a missing comma, quote or bracket, or restore config.json.bak or a backup. See server not starting.
