An MTA:SA server uses three ports. On a default FREAKHOSTING server they are 22003 UDP for players (the game port), 22005 TCP for the built-in web server that sends resources to players (game port + 2), and 22126 UDP for the server list query, called ASE (game port + 123). We set all three up for you. Players connect to the game port only. Your server’s ports may differ from the defaults. The game port is the one in the address on the Console page.

Where do I find my server’s address and port?

Open the Console and use the Copy address card, for example 203.0.113.10:22003. Network lists your allocations. Players type this address in Quick Connect or use connect 203.0.113.10 22003 in the F8 console.

What does each port do?

  • Game port (22003 UDP). All gameplay traffic. This is the port players connect to.
  • HTTP port (22005 TCP). MTA’s built-in web server. On our servers it is always the game port + 2. It is set in the Startup variable SERVER_WEBPORT, which is read-only. Resource downloads on our servers go through our download address (see resources not downloading).
  • ASE port (22126 UDP). MTA calculates it from the game port + 123. It answers the master server and the in-game browser. If it can’t be reached, your server doesn’t appear in the server list.

How to test the ports

Type this in the server console:
It tests whether the server ports can be reached from outside. If a port reports closed, open a ticket with the output.

Can I change the ports?

No. The ports are assigned to your server by us and passed to MTA when it starts. Don’t change serverport or httpport in mtaserver.conf. If you need a different port, open a ticket.

Do I need to forward ports?

No. Port forwarding is only needed when you host MTA at home behind a router. Your FREAKHOSTING server is already reachable. If you use our firewall, see DDoS filters.

Frequently asked questions

Which port do players use to join?

The game port, by default 22003, for example 203.0.113.10:22003. The other two ports work in the background.

Why does my server not show in the list although players can join?

The listing uses the ASE port and a few settings. See server not showing in the list.

Is 22005 the same as the web admin port?

Yes. The built-in web server, including the webadmin resource, runs on the HTTP port.
