To set a Steam game server token (GSLT) on a FREAKHOSTING Counter-Strike: Source server, create a token for App ID 240 at steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers, then open Game settings, click Set next to Steam game server token, paste it, save and restart. Without a token the server logs in anonymously and gets a new Steam ID at every start.

Before you start

Steam only lets you create a token if your account:
  • owns Counter-Strike: Source,
  • has a qualifying phone number registered,
  • is not limited, community banned or locked.

How to create a GSLT for Counter-Strike: Source

Open Steam's token page

Go to steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers and log in.

Enter the App ID

Enter 240 in the App ID field. That is the Counter-Strike: Source game, not the dedicated server tool (232330).

Add a memo

Type a memo you will recognise, for example the server name, and create the token.

Copy the token

Copy the Login Token. Keep it private: don’t share it with anyone else.

How to add the token to your server

Open Game settings

In the Game Panel, open your server and click Game settings. If the Checks box shows No Steam game server token, click Go to the setting.

Set the token

Under Start-up, click Set next to Steam game server token, paste the token and save. It is stored in Startup, so it is marked STARTUP.

Restart the server

Restart the server. The token is passed to the server as +sv_setsteamaccount.
You can also paste the token into the Steam Game Login Token variable in Startup. Both places save the same value. See startup variables.

How to check that the token works

Watch the console after the start: Either way, the server is ready when it shows VAC secure mode is activated.

Frequently asked questions

Is a GSLT required for Counter-Strike: Source?

No. A CS:S server also runs without one, using an anonymous game server account. A token gives the server a fixed Steam identity, and the panel notes that without one the server may be hard to find in the server list.

Can I use one token for two servers?

Use one token per server. Create another token on the same Steam page for each extra server.

My token stopped working. What happened?

A token that is never used for a long time expires, and resetting your Steam password regenerates all your tokens. Create or regenerate the token on Steam’s page and paste the new one.

Can I use my CS2 or CS:GO token?

No. A token is made for one App ID. Counter-Strike: Source needs a token for App ID 240.
