Dynmap or BlueMap?

Both are free and run on Paper. BlueMap also has Fabric, Forge and NeoForge versions. Check the version you install supports your Minecraft version: new Minecraft releases can take a while to be supported.

Get a port for the map

The map runs its own small web server, so it needs its own port. Open a ticket and ask for an extra port for your web map. We tell you the number when it’s added.

Set up BlueMap

1

Install

Click Plugins (or Mods on a mod loader), search for BlueMap and install it. Restart the server once so it creates its config files.
2

Accept the resource download

BlueMap needs Minecraft’s resources to draw blocks. Read the notice in plugins/BlueMap/core.conf, then set:
3

Set the port

In plugins/BlueMap/webserver.conf, set port to your extra port:
Use your own port number.
4

Restart and open the map

Restart the server. BlueMap starts rendering on its own. Open http://203.0.113.10:8100 in your browser, using your server IP and map port.
On mod loaders, BlueMap’s files are in config/bluemap/ instead of plugins/BlueMap/.

Set up Dynmap

1

Install

Click Plugins, search for Dynmap and install it. Restart the server once so it creates plugins/dynmap/configuration.txt.
2

Set the port

Stop the server. In plugins/dynmap/configuration.txt, find webserver-port and set your extra port:
Use your own port number.
3

Choose the detail level (optional)

For a smaller, lighter map, change deftemplatesuffix to lowres or vlowres.
4

Start and render

Start the server and run dynmap fullrender world in the console. Open http://203.0.113.10:8123 in your browser.

Keep the map light

  • Set a world border first, for example worldborder set 10000. Without one, the map keeps growing as players explore.
  • Pre-generate the world with Chunky before the first full render. See performance.
  • Run full renders when few players are online.
  • Watch your disk space on the Overview page. Large maps can use many gigabytes.
