Left 4 Dead 2 has no admin system of its own, so dedicated servers use SourceMod. Add your SteamID to addons/sourcemod/configs/admins_simple.ini as "STEAM_1:0:12345678" "99:z", type sm_reloadadmins in the console, then open the admin menu in game with sm_admin in the console or !admin in chat. The z flag gives full (root) access.

Before you start

  • SourceMod is installed. See install SourceMod on Left 4 Dead 2.
  • You know your SteamID in the STEAM_1:X:XXXXXXXX format. Join the server and type status in the panel Console: the line with your name shows it.

How to add an admin in SourceMod

Open admins_simple.ini

In Files, open left4dead2/addons/sourcemod/configs/admins_simple.ini.

Add a line for each admin

Add one line per admin at the end of the file:
The first value is the SteamID. In the second, 99 is the immunity level and z is the flags.

Save and reload

Save the file. In the Console, type sm_reloadadmins. No restart is needed.

Why do I get “You do not have access to this command”?

Your SteamID in admins_simple.ini doesn’t match or you didn’t reload. Check the ID with status, fix the line and type sm_reloadadmins.

Can I use my Steam64 ID?

The SourceMod wiki documents the STEAM_X:Y:Z format, so use that.

How do I ban someone for two days?

Type sm_ban <name> 2880 <reason>. The time is in minutes (2 days = 2,880 minutes).
