To change your Mordhau server name, open your server in the Game Panel, click Startup, type the new name in Server Name (up to 40 characters) and restart the server. The panel writes it into Game.ini as the server starts. Mordhau has no documented colour codes for server names, so use plain text. To greet players, set a message page with MOTDURL in Game.ini.

How to change the server name

Open Startup

Open your server in the Game Panel and click Startup.

Type the new name

Replace the text in Server Name. Keep it under 40 characters. The field saves when you click away.

Restart

Restart the server. The new name shows in the server browser once the server is back online.
Don’t change ServerName= in Game.ini. The panel writes that line from Server Name at every start, so a name typed into the file is replaced.

Can I add colours to my Mordhau server name?

Mordhau’s server documentation doesn’t list colour or formatting codes for server names. Use plain text and make the name easy to find instead:
  • Put the game mode first, for example Frontline | EU | Friendly.
  • Add your region and your community name.
  • Avoid unusual symbols that players can’t type in the search box.

How to set a join message page (MOTD)

Game.ini has a MOTDURL= line under [/Script/Mordhau.MordhauGameMode]. Set it to the web address of a page with your rules or Discord link.

Stop the server.

Edit MOTDURL

In Files, open Mordhau > Saved > Config > LinuxServer > Game.ini and set the line, for example:

Save and start

Click Save Content and start the server.
With RCON you can change it while the server runs: SetMotd https://example.com/our-rules.

Why does my server still show the old name?

You need to restart after changing Server Name. If you changed the name in Game.ini only, the panel replaced it at the next start; change it on Startup.
