To set a password on your Squad server, use the admin command AdminSetServerPassword <Password>, for example AdminSetServerPassword Practice2026. Type it in the in-game admin console (double-tap ~) or send it over RCON. Your admin group needs the private access level in Admins.cfg. To remove the password, use AdminSetServerPassword "".

Before you start

  • Your server has no password field on Startup and no password key in Server.cfg. The password is set with an admin command.
  • You need to be an admin. See add admins.

Stop the server

Stop the server.

Edit Admins.cfg

In Files, open SquadGame/ServerConfig/Admins.cfg. Add private to your group, for example change Group=Admin:kick,ban,changemap to Group=Admin:kick,ban,changemap,private.

Save and start

Save the file and start the server.

Give the password to the players you want to let in.

How to remove the password

Type AdminSetServerPassword "" in the admin console or over RCON. The two quote marks mean an empty password.

Does the Squad server password stay after a restart?

Check after each restart by trying to join. If the password is gone, set it again with AdminSetServerPassword.

Why does AdminSetServerPassword not work?

Your group in Admins.cfg needs the private access level, and you must restart the server after editing the file.

Can I put the password in Server.cfg?

No. Your Server.cfg has no password key. Use the admin command.
