To set a password on your Enshrouded dedicated server, open Game settings under GAME SETTINGS in the Game Panel, click Change next to Server password, type your password, click Done, then Review and save and Save changes. Restart the server. Enshrouded makes a random 8-character password the first time it starts, so set your own before you invite players.

How Enshrouded server passwords work

Enshrouded doesn’t have one server password. It has player groups (also called roles), and each group has its own password. The password a player types decides which group they join and what they may do. Your server starts with one group called “Default”, and Server password in Game settings is that group’s password. You can add more groups, for example an Admin group with its own password. See roles and admin permissions.

How to set your own password

Open Game settings

Open your server and click Game settings under GAME SETTINGS.

Click Change

In the Server section, click Change next to Server password.

Type the password

Enter your password in New value and click Done.

Review and save

Click Review and save, then Save changes. Passwords are hidden in the review.

Restart

Click Restart now and Restart.
Set and change the join password only in Game settings.

How to find the current password

Game settings hides the password as ••••••••. To read it, click “enshrouded_server.json: open the raw file” at the bottom of the page and look for the first "password" inside "userGroups":

How to remove the password

Click Remove next to Server password, then save and restart. Keen Games strongly recommends a password on dedicated servers: without one, anyone who finds your server can join with the “Default” group’s permissions.

How players enter the password

Players find your server in the in-game list (Join, with Show dedicated servers on) and click it. Enshrouded asks for the password before they join.

Can I give admins a different password?

Yes. Add a second group with its own password and permissions in enshrouded_server.json. See roles and admin permissions.

Why does my server have a password I never set?

The game makes a random password the first time the server starts. Replace it with your own in Game settings.

Is the password case-sensitive?

Type it exactly as saved, including capitals. If it fails, see password not working.
