On your FREAKHOSTING Enshrouded server, the world save is in the savegame folder in the main folder (/savegame/). Characters are not on the server: each player’s character is saved on their own PC. In Enshrouded 1.0, local saves on Windows are in C:\Users\<you>\Saved Games\keen games\Enshrouded\default. To keep a copy of the server world, make a backup in the Game Panel and download it.

How to find the save folder on your server

Open Files

Open your server in the Game Panel and click Files.

Open savegame

Open the savegame folder. It holds your world’s save files.
The folder is set by saveDirectory in enshrouded_server.json (./savegame by default). Leave it as it is.

How to download a backup of your world

The safest copy is a full panel backup, because it includes the world, the settings file and everything else.

Create a backup

Click Backups, then Create backup. Give it a name, for example “Before the boss fight”. See create and restore backups.

Download it

When the backup is finished, click Download on its card. Compare the checksum with Show checksum if you want to be sure the download is complete.
To copy only the world, stop the server and download the savegame folder with SFTP. Stopping first makes sure the files are complete.

Where are Enshrouded saves on my PC?

In Enshrouded 1.0, local saves are in:
Enshrouded 1.0 also lets you choose between this local folder and the Steam Cloud folder. Your character files are here, together with worlds you host yourself.

Does a server backup include my character?

No. Characters are stored on each player’s PC. Back up your local save folder to protect your character.

How often does the server save?

The game saves the world by itself while it runs. Stop the server before you copy files, so they aren’t being written while you copy them.

Yes. Use automatic backups to back up every 6 hours, daily or weekly.
