To update your Enshrouded dedicated server on FREAKHOSTING, restart it. [SERVER] Auto Update on the Startup page is on by default, so the server downloads the latest Enshrouded version every time it starts. If players see a version error after a game patch, restart the server once the patch is out. If server files are damaged, turn on [SYSTEM] Validate for one start.

How to update your Enshrouded server

Make a backup

Before a big update, click Backups > Create backup. Large updates can change the save format.

Check Auto Update

Open Startup and check that [SERVER] Auto Update is on. Its description is “Enable automatic updates on boot”.

Restart the server

Restart the server. It downloads any new version before it starts.

Check the console

Open the console and wait for [Session] finished transition from 'Lobby' to 'Host_Online'. Then join.

How to repair server files with Validate

If the server crashes on start after an update, or files look damaged:
  1. Open Startup and turn on [SYSTEM] Validate (“Validate the serverfiles through Steam”).
  2. Restart the server. The start takes longer because Steam checks every file.
  3. Turn Validate off again when the server runs.

How to update automatically every day

Create a schedule that restarts the server at night, for example at 04:00. Each restart installs any new version. See schedules.

Why can’t players join after an Enshrouded update?

The game on players’ PCs and the server must run the same version. After a patch:
  • Players updated, server not: restart the server.
  • Server updated, players not: players restart Steam so Enshrouded updates.

What changed with Enshrouded 1.0?

Enshrouded left Early Access with version 1.0 on 15 October 2026, followed by hotfixes 1.0.0.1, 1.0.0.2 and 1.0.0.3 (21 October 2026). When an Early Access world is first loaded in 1.0, the game backs up the old save and converts it to a new, smaller format. Skill trees are reset so players can spend their points again.

Should I turn Auto Update off?

Only if you need to stay on a version for a short while. With it off, players on the newest game version may not be able to join.

Will an update delete my world?

No. Updates keep the savegame folder. Make a backup before big updates anyway.

How do I know which version my server runs?

Restart it so Auto Update installs the latest version, and check Keen Games’ news page for the current version number.
