Community Gatekeeping

One of the most effective ways to build a dedicated community and prevent “random” griefers from joining is to link your server to a Steam Group. Once enabled, the server will check every connecting player’s group membership and automatically disconnect anyone who hasn’t joined your community.

1. Finding Your Group ID

  1. Open your Steam Group page in a web browser.
  2. In the URL, look for the numerical ID (or append /edit to the URL to view the direct ID in the metadata).
  3. If your group has a custom URL, you may need to use a “Steam ID Finder” tool to retrieve the long-form Group ID64.

2. Enabling the Check (Config.json)

  1. Navigate to: /Servers/Default/Config.json
  2. Search for the Steam_Group_ID field.
  3. Replace the 0 with your group’s ID:
    "Identity": {
        "Steam_Group_ID": "103582791465220608"
    }

  4. Save and Restart the server.

Group Synchronization

Players who join your group while the server is running may need to restart their Unturned client for Steam to update their active group status before they can successfully connect.
