To whitelist players on your FREAKHOSTING Unturned server, stop the server, add the line Whitelisted to Commands.dat, then start it and permit each player in the console with permit <SteamID64>/<tag>, for example permit 76561198000000000/Friend. Only permitted players can join. Unturned’s own whitelist works per Steam ID; it has no Steam group option, so a group whitelist needs a plugin.

Stop the server

Stop the server. Whitelisted is a startup command.

Add Whitelisted

Open Game settings > Commands.dat: open the raw file (or Servers/PterodactylUnturned/Server/Commands.dat in the File Manager). Add a line with only Whitelisted and save.

Start the server

Start the server. From now on only permitted players can join.

Permit yourself and your players

In the console, type permit with each player’s SteamID64 and a tag, a short note for you:
Permit yourself too, or you can’t join either. The list is saved in Server/Whitelist.dat and stays after restarts.

How to whitelist a Steam group

Unturned has no built-in setting for a Steam group whitelist. You have two options:
  • Permit each member with permit. This suits a small group.
  • Use a RocketMod plugin that checks Steam group membership. See plugins for Rocket and OpenMod for where to find plugins.

Is a password simpler?

For a small private server, a password is often enough. Set Server password on Game settings and give it to your friends. A whitelist is better when you want to control exactly who joins, even if the password leaks.

Where do I find a player’s SteamID64?

Ask them to open Account details in Steam, or, while they are online, type /investigate PlayerName in chat as admin. It is a 17-digit number that starts with 7656.

Why does permit say the parameters are wrong?

It needs exactly two parts separated by /: the SteamID64 and a tag. permit 76561198000000000 alone isn’t accepted.

Can I turn the whitelist off again?

Yes. Stop the server, remove the Whitelisted line from Commands.dat and start it. The permits stay saved for next time.
