Customizing Your Fleet

Integrating custom trucks, such as the Peterbilt 389 Glider or specialized heavy-duty haulers, significantly enhances the visual variety and roleplay depth of your American Truck Simulator (ATS) server. Unlike platforms with automated asset streaming, ATS Convoy servers require precise manual synchronization of mod files between the server and all participating drivers.

The Synchronization Lifecycle

ATS Convoy servers do not automatically push mod assets to joining clients. To ensure that everyone can see and interact with custom trucks without errors, you must follow this lifecycle:

Deploy to Server

Upload your chosen truck .scs files into the /mod/ directory of your server via the Game Panel File Manager or an SFTP client.

Client-Side Alignment

Every driver intending to join the server must possess the identical version of these .scs files within their local Documents/American Truck Simulator/mod/ directory.

Export Mod Manifest

use the in-game “Export Server Packages” tool within ATS to generate a fresh server_packages.sii file. Upload this file to your server to define which mods are mandatory for entry.

Strategic Community Synchronization

Maintaining consistency across a large group of players is the most challenging aspect of modding. We recommend these proven methods for a smooth experience:
The most efficient method is creating a Steam Workshop Collection. Instruct all community members to subscribe to the collection. You can then download these specific files to your PC and upload them to the server’s /mod/ folder.

Resolving Mod Mismatch Errors

Even a minor version difference (e.g., v1.1 vs v1.1.1) will trigger a “Mod Mismatch” error, and the server will reject the connection. Always coordinate community-wide updates to ensure all files are updated simultaneously across all participants.

Troubleshooting & Optimization

If a driver can join but cannot see another player’s custom truck (seeing a default placeholder instead), it indicates that the driver has the mod active but the versions are not perfectly matched, or the mod is missing a required cabin accessory DLC.
High-fidelity truck mods often have very large texture files. To prevent server-wide FPS drops during convoys, encourage players to use mods that are optimized for multiplayer performance.
