Flexible Mod Management

While most mods must be synchronized between the server and client, ATS allows for certain “Optional” mods. This allows players without the mod to still join and enjoy the convoy.

Configuration Settings

To allow clients to join without having every mod, find this setting in your server_config.sii:
  • mods_optional_for_client: true

Limitations & Risks

  • Visual Placeholders: If a client doesn’t have a mandatory truck mod, that truck will appear as an error placeholder or be invisible to them.
  • Crash Risk: If a mod affects the game’s physics or map geometry, making it optional will almost certainly cause the client’s game to crash.

Recommendation

We recommend only making sound mods, UI mods, or interior accessories optional. Map expansions and vehicle models should always be set as mandatory for a stable experience.
