This guide takes you from a new FiveM server to playing on it. You add your licence key, start the server, set up txAdmin, create a database if your framework needs one and connect from FiveM.

What you get

Your FiveM server runs in the Game Panel at games.freakhosting.com. It comes with txAdmin, the web panel from Cfx.re that starts and watches your server. Besides the standard pages, such as Console, Files and Backups, the sidebar has a FIVEM group: New to the panel? Read how to sign in and find your way around first.

Step 1: Get a licence key

Every FiveM server needs a free server licence key from Cfx.re. Without it, the server does not start.

Sign in to the Cfx.re Portal

Go to portal.cfx.re and sign in with your Cfx.re account. Create one if you don’t have it.

Register a server

Open Server Registration Keys and click the + button. Fill in the form and click Generate Key.

Copy the key

Open the server you just registered and click Copy Key.
Treat your licence key like a password. Never post it on Discord or in screenshots. If someone else gets it, regenerate it on the Portal and paste the new key in Startup.

Step 2: Add the key and start the server

Open Startup

Open your server in the Game Panel, then click Startup in the sidebar.

Paste your key

Replace changemeplease in FxServer License Key with your key. Click outside the field and it saves on its own.

Start the server

Click Console in the sidebar, then click Start at the top of the page.

Step 3: Set up txAdmin

txAdmin is always switched on for your server. The first time it starts, you link it to your Cfx.re account with a PIN.

Find the PIN

Watch the Console. On first start, txAdmin prints a PIN code there.

Open txAdmin

Click Open txAdmin next to your server’s IP at the top of the page. txAdmin opens in a new tab.

Enter the PIN and link your account

Type the PIN, then sign in with your Cfx.re account. This account becomes the main (master) admin. Set a backup password when txAdmin asks for one.

Name your server

Enter the server name that txAdmin should use.

Choose a deployment type

Pick one of the options below, then follow txAdmin’s steps. When asked for the licence key, use the same key as in Step 1.

Save and start

Check the server.cfg that txAdmin shows you, then click Save & Run Server.

Which deployment type to choose

The panel’s Server config page edits the server.cfg in your server’s main folder. txAdmin reads server.cfg from the folder you choose during setup. If that is a different folder, changes on Server config and Resources are not used, and the Server config page shows the check txAdmin runs this server. In that case, edit server.cfg in txAdmin or in Files instead.

Step 4: Create a database (frameworks only)

Frameworks such as QBCore, Qbox and ESX store characters, money and inventories in a MySQL database. Plain servers and vMenu don’t need one.

Create the database

Click Databases in the sidebar, then Create database. Give it a name, for example fivem, leave Allowed to connect from on Anywhere and click Create database. See how to manage databases for details.

Copy the connection string

On the database card, click Show next to the password. Under FORMAT, choose FiveM (oxmysql) and click Copy. The card writes the full line for you.

Use it

  • txAdmin recipe: paste the host, user name, password and database name when the recipe asks for them.
  • Existing server: paste the copied line into server.cfg (above your ensure lines), replacing any old mysql_connection_string line.

Import SQL files if a script needs them

Some scripts come with a .sql file. Click Open in phpMyAdmin on the database card, sign in with the user name and password from the card, select your database and use the Import tab.
Before you import a .sql file into a database that already has data, export a copy first. Many SQL files drop and recreate tables.

Step 5: Connect from FiveM

Your server address is shown at the top of every server page and on the Copy address card in the console, for example 203.0.113.10:30120.
  • Direct connect: open FiveM, press F8 to open the client console and type connect 203.0.113.10:30120 with your own address.
  • Server list: search for your server name in the FiveM server list. A new server can take a few minutes to appear.
