vMenu is a free, server-side trainer for FiveM. Players can change their appearance, spawn cars and change the weather, and admins can kick and ban, but only if you allow it. This guide shows you how to install vMenu and set up its permissions.

Difficulty

Intermediate

Time

15 minutes

Before you start

  • Use OneSync On and a current FXServer build. vMenu’s docs ask you to keep your FXServer up to date; use Recommended on the Artifacts page.
  • vMenu’s documentation at docs.vespura.com/vmenu covers two versions: vMenu Enhanced and classic vMenu (v3.9.2 and older). This guide follows the classic vMenu docs. If you install vMenu Enhanced, check its own docs for any differences.
  • vMenu gives no support for questions answered in its docs, so keep them at hand.
  • Using a framework (QBCore, Qbox, ESX)? vMenu works alongside them, but limit spawning and money-related options so they don’t clash with your economy.

Install vMenu

1

Download vMenu

Download the latest release zip from the vMenu GitHub releases.
2

Create the vMenu folder

Open Files, go to resources and click New folder. Name it exactly vMenu, with a capital M. The name is case-sensitive.
3

Upload and unpack

Open the vMenu folder, click Upload and upload the zip. Then open the zip’s … menu and click Unarchive. Delete the zip afterwards.
4

Check the folder

The file resources/vMenu/fxmanifest.lua must exist. If you see resources/vMenu/vMenu/fxmanifest.lua, move the files up one level.
Prefer SFTP? Unzip vMenu on your computer and upload the contents into resources/vMenu. See how to connect via SFTP.

Load permissions before vMenu

vMenu does not read permissions.cfg on its own. Your server.cfg must run it, and it must run before vMenu starts.
1

Open server.cfg

Go to Server config and click Advanced: open the raw file.
2

Add the two lines

Add these lines, in this order:
The exec line must be above ensure vMenu. If Start at boot on Resources already added an ensure vMenu line, put the exec line above it and don’t add a second ensure.
3

Save and restart

Save the file and restart the server. Check the console for errors from vMenu.
The permissions file lives at resources/vMenu/config/permissions.cfg. Edit it in Files. Changes need a server restart.

Make yourself an admin

vMenu uses FiveM’s ace permissions: groups are called principals and permissions are aces.
1

Find your identifier

Join the server, then type status in the panel Console. Note your identifier, for example fivem:1234567 or discord:123456789012345678.
2

Add yourself to the admin group

In permissions.cfg, add a line:
3

Give the group permissions

Make sure the admin group has the permissions you want, for example:
4

Restart

Save and restart the server, then reconnect.
vMenu.Everything grants access to everything, including bans. vMenu’s docs advise against giving it out. Give it only to the server owner, if at all.

Key permissions

The full list is in the vMenu permissions reference.

Give players some options

Permissions for builtin.everyone apply to every player, and you can’t take them away from one player afterwards. For example, to let everyone change their appearance and the time:
To take a permission away, comment the line out with # instead of using deny. Also check that an .All permission for the same menu isn’t still allowed: it overrides the single options.

Useful vMenu settings

These go in permissions.cfg (or in server.cfg above ensure vMenu) and use setr: Players can change the key that opens vMenu in FiveM’s key bindings settings.

Update vMenu

  1. Create a backup.
  2. Replace all files in resources/vMenu, except permissions.cfg and the other files in resources/vMenu/config.
  3. Restart the server.

Troubleshooting

  • Check the folder is called exactly vMenu and fxmanifest.lua is directly inside it.
  • Make sure exec @vMenu/config/permissions.cfg comes before ensure vMenu.
  • Look for red errors in the console when the server starts.
  • Check your identifier with status and make sure the add_principal line uses exactly that, with identifier. in front.
  • Restart the server after every change to permissions.cfg, then reconnect.
  • Check vmenu_use_permissions isn’t set to false.
Look for broad permissions given to builtin.everyone, such as .All options or vMenu.Everything, and comment them out.
