Ranked Progression

One of the primary reasons players join a server is to level up their Perks. If a server is considered “Unranked,” players will not earn XP, their kills will not count towards Prestige, and they will likely leave immediately. Understanding what triggers a “Ranked” status is vital for server health.

1. The Whitelist Rule

Tripwire Interactive (the developers) maintains a strictly controlled “Whitelist” for server modifications.
  • Ranked: If you use vanity mods (Damage Numbers, HUD tweaks) that are on the official whitelist.
  • Unranked: If you use “Blacklisted” mutators, such as “Infinite Ammo,” “Super Weapons,” or “Infinite Dosh” mods.

2. Server Configuration

Ensure your server is allowing takeover and ranked play by checking these variables in PCServer-KFGame.ini:
bUsedForTakeover=true
bEnabled=true
If you are running a “Sandbox” style server for practice, you can set bUsedForTakeover to false, but note that this will effectively hide your server from the standard matchmaking pool.
