server.cfg is the main configuration file of a RedM server: it sets the server name, OneSync, server list details and which resources start. On FREAKHOSTING, click Server config under FIVEM in the sidebar to edit it in plain words, click Review and save, check the changes and click Save changes. Restart the server to apply them.

Before you start

  • RedM uses the same Server config page as FiveM, so some help texts mention FiveM or GTA. The fields work for RedM, except Game build (see the warning below).
  • If you run a txAdmin recipe, txAdmin uses the server.cfg in the recipe’s folder, not the one this page edits. See how to set up txAdmin.

How to edit server.cfg with Server config

1

Open Server config

Open your server in the Game Panel and click Server config under FIVEM. Only the lines you change are touched.
RedM Server config page with Checks showing three items to look at, the Open txAdmin button and the Your server section with Server name, Project name, Player slots, Language and Licence key

2

Fix the checks

Checks lists what to look at. On a new server: The licence key is not set, The language is still the template’s placeholder and The project name is still the template’s. Click Use English (en-US) or Go to the setting to fix one.
3

Change the fields

Fill in the fields in the tables below.
4

Review and save

Click Review and save in the bar at the bottom. The dialog shows exactly which lines change; licence keys, passwords and other secrets are hidden in this view. Click Save changes. The old file is kept as server.cfg.bak.
5

Restart

Restart the server to apply the changes.

Gameplay and security

The Game build list on Server config shows GTA V builds (for example 2060 or 3889). They do not exist for Red Dead Redemption 2. Leave this field not set and choose the RedM build in Startup > Game Build instead. See how to change the game build.

Server list

Cfx.re now manages server list details on the Cfx.re Portal. Its documentation marks sv_hostname, sv_projectName, sv_projectDesc and load_server_icon in server.cfg as deprecated. If the list doesn’t show what you set here, set it on the Portal.

How to edit the raw server.cfg file

For lines the page doesn’t cover, such as ensure lines, permissions or a database connection, click Advanced: open the raw file. It opens server.cfg in the file editor. See how to use the file manager.

RedM server.cfg example explained

Don’t add sv_maxclients, sv_licenseKey, steam_webApiKey or endpoint_add_* lines by hand. The panel writes them from Startup at every start, in a block the file marks as set automatically. The game build is also set from Startup.

Frequently asked questions

Where is server.cfg on my RedM server?

In your server’s main folder. A txAdmin recipe uses the server.cfg in its own folder under txData.

How do I undo a change to server.cfg?

The previous file is saved as server.cfg.bak. The file editor’s History also keeps earlier versions you can restore.

Do server.cfg changes apply without a restart?

No. Restart after saving. To start one new resource without a restart, run refresh and then ensure <name> in the console.

Why does my slot number change back?

The panel rewrites sv_maxclients from Max Players at every start. Max Players is set by your plan; for more slots, open a ticket.
