Server Authority: Admin Setup

Sons of the Forest dedicated servers utilize a streamlined permission system based on administrative passwords. By configuring an “Admin Password,” you grant yourself the ability to execute world-management commands and manage player connections directly from the in-game client.

Initialization

  1. Stop Server: Ensure your server is offline before modifying JSON files.
  2. Locate Config: Open the /userdata/dedicatedserver.cfg file using the FREAKHOSTING File Manager.
  3. Set Password: Find the line "AdminPassword": "" and enter your desired secure phrase between the quotes.
    • Example: "AdminPassword": "MySecretPassword123!"

Authenticating In-Game

Once the server is back online, follow these steps to claim your administrative rights:
  1. Join your server as a normal player.
  2. Open the F1 console (requires Cheatstick Activation first).
  3. Type the following command: /adminlogin {YourPassword}.
  4. If successful, you will receive more robust options within the F1 menu to kick, ban, or teleport players.

SteamID Authorization

Advanced users can also authorize themselves by adding their 17-digit SteamID64 to the "Owners" array in the configuration file, allowing for automatic admin status every time they connect without needing to type a password.
