Authority Management: Server Admins
Administrative rights in Sons of the Forest grant you the power to bypass standard survival restrictions, execute developer console commands, and moderate the player community via kicks and bans. There are two primary methods for establishing these rights: the Whitelist system (for persistent rights) and the Password system (for temporary access).

The Whitelist Method (Persistent)
This is the most secure method for defining long-term server owners.- Identify ID: Obtain your 17-digit SteamID64 (e.g.,
76561198...). - Access Files: Navigate to your
/userdata/directory via the Freakhosting File Manager. - Edit Whitelist: Open the
ownerswhitelist.txtfile. - Input: Paste your SteamID64 on a new line. Save the file.
- Relog: When you next connect to the server, the engine will automatically recognize you as an “Owner,” granting you full access to the F1 Console.
Enabling Cheat Mode
Granting admin rights allows you to open the console, but the commands themselves may still be locked if the server is in “Pure” mode.- Config Path:
/userdata/dedicatedservergameplay.json - Variable:
"GameSetting.V.CheatsMode": true - Utility: This must be set to
trueto enable building hacks, godmode, and item spawning.
Security Warning
SettingCheatsMode to true enables administrative commands for any user you have granted ownership or moderator status. Be extremely selective with whom you add to your ownerswhitelist.txt, as there is currently no “permission tier” system—every owner has full destructive power over the world.Support Channels
