Environmental Restoration: Tree Regrowth
By default, deforestation in Sons of the Forest can become permanent if you clear large swaths of land for building. To maintain the island’s lush environment and ensure a steady supply of building materials for the long term, we recommend enabling the Tree Regrowth system.

Configuration Variables
This setting is managed within the Gameplay settings file:- Path:
/userdata/dedicatedservergameplay.json - Variable:
"GameSetting.V.TreeRegrowth": true(Set to true to enable).
How It Functions
- Timing: Trees typically regrow while players are sleeping.
- Rate: The speed is determined by the
TreeRegrowthRatevariable. A value of0.1represents a 10% chance for a stump to grow back into a tree each night cycle. - Proximity: Regrowth will not occur if a player-built structure (like a cabin) is too close to the stump, preventing trees from bursting through your floors.
