To add an admin on a FREAKHOSTING 7 Days to Die server, join the server with that player, open the panel Console and type admin add <name> 0, where 0 is the highest permission level. The game saves admins in serveradmin.xml in .local/share/7DaysToDie/Saves/, which you can also edit by hand with a SteamID64.

How to add an admin with a console command

1

Join the server

The player who should become admin joins the server.
2

Find the player

In the panel Console, type lpi (list player IDs). It shows each online player’s name and IDs.
3

Add the admin

Type the command with the player’s name or entity ID and a level:
Example: admin add Alex 0
4

Check it

The player can now open the in-game console with F1 and use admin commands. The admin is stored in serveradmin.xml and stays after restarts.
To remove an admin, type admin remove <name / entity id>.

How to add an admin in serveradmin.xml

Use this when the player is offline. You need their SteamID64 (17 digits, starting with 7656).
1

Stop the server

Stop the server so your edit isn’t lost.
2

Open the file

In Files, open .local/share/7DaysToDie/Saves/serveradmin.xml. Open .local, then share, 7DaysToDie and Saves.
3

Add a user line

Inside the <users> section, outside any <!-- --> comment, add:
The name is only a note for you.
4

Save and start

Save the file and start the server.

Permission levels

The Admin slots and Reserved slots settings on Game settings use these levels too. Permission level for reserved slots defaults to 100.

Whitelist and bans

Once the whitelist has an entry, only whitelisted players and admins can join.

Frequently asked questions

Where is serveradmin.xml on a 7 Days to Die server?

In .local/share/7DaysToDie/Saves/, next to the world save folders. It is not in the server root.

Why can’t I use admin commands after adding myself?

Check that your line isn’t inside a <!-- --> comment and that you used your SteamID64. With the command, use the exact in-game name or the entity ID from lpi.

Does resetting the world remove my admins?

No, as long as you only delete the world save folder. serveradmin.xml sits one level above it.

Do commands in the panel console need admin rights?

No. The panel console runs commands as the server, so every command works there.
