.local/share/7DaysToDie/Saves/<World>/<Save name>/ instead. Admins in serveradmin.xml are kept either way.
Before you start
- Make a backup. A deleted save can only come back from a backup.
- Tell your players. Their characters, bases and inventories are part of the save.
How to start a new save
1
Stop the server
2
Change the save name
Open Game settings > World and save and enter a new Save name, for example
Season2. The panel warns: “Changing the save name starts a new, empty save. The old one stays on disk.”3
Save and start
Click Review and save and start the server. Players start fresh on day 1.
How to delete the old save completely
1
Stop the server
The server must be stopped so the game doesn’t write to the files.
2
Open the Saves folder
In Files, open
.local/share/7DaysToDie/Saves/. Inside is one folder per world, for example Navezgane, and inside that one folder per save name, for example MyGame.3
Delete the save folder
Delete the save folder (for example
Saves/Navezgane/MyGame). Don’t delete serveradmin.xml, which keeps your admins, whitelist and bans.4
Start the server
Start the server. With the same Save name, it creates a new, empty save.
How to get new terrain as well
A save only resets the game progress. For a new map, set World toRWG with a new WorldGenSeed in serverconfig.xml, or upload a new world. See custom maps.
Partial resets without a wipe
Reset unvisited chunks after on Game settings > Performance setsMaxChunkAge: chunks that nobody has visited for that many in-game days, and that no land claim protects, reset to their original state. The default -1 never resets. Disk space for a save (SaveDataLimit) resets old chunks when the save grows past the limit you set.
Frequently asked questions
Does a world reset remove my admins?
No.serveradmin.xml sits in Saves/, above the world folders, so it stays.
Can I go back to my old world?
Yes, if you used a new Save name. Set the old name back and restart. If you deleted the folder, restore a backup.Does changing the sandbox code need a reset?
The game reads the sandbox code at every start. If a change doesn’t show in your current save, start a new save to be sure. See sandbox code.Related guides
