Enshrouded uses a unique Server-Wide Progression model that fundamentally differs from traditional character-centric RPGs. In Embervale, the world itself evolves as milestones are achieved. This architectural choice ensures that the server’s environment remains consistent for all participants, but it also means that major narrative shifts and functional unlocks are tied to the world save rather than the individual player. This guide walk you through the technical distinctions between what is shared across your community and what remains exclusive to your character.

Technical Progression Logic

Understanding the division of data is essential for managing player expectations and community events.
  • Functional NPC Unlocks: When any survivor rescues a specialized NPC (e.g., the Blacksmith or Alchemist), that NPC becomes available at every Flame Altar across the entire server.
  • Global Flame Level: Progress towards strengthening the world’s protective flame is shared. Improvements to the global flame benefit all connected survivors.
  • Narrative Milestones: Major story quests and environmental transitions completed by any group are marked as finished for the entire world instance.

Strategic Community Recommendations

Because early-game milestones are often pre-unlocked on established servers, new players joining an active world may find they have missed the initial narrative context. We recommend using a dedicated “New Player” safehouse containing signs or localized chests that summarize the community’s current technical progress.
Enshrouded is technically optimized for consistent groups of friends who progress through the narrative simultaneously. If you wish to experience the story from the absolute beginning with a new community, we recommend performing a Full World Wipe to reset the world registry.
