Defining Your First Impression

The “Message of the Day” (MOTD) is the text displayed under your server’s name in the multiplayer lobby. A well-formatted MOTD attracts players by showcasing your server’s unique features, game modes, or current events.

Configuration via server.properties

  1. Access Files: Navigate to the Files tab on the FREAKHOSTING Panel.
  2. Edit Properties: Open the server.properties file.
  3. Locate MOTD: Find the line starting with motd=.
  4. Customization: Enter your message after the equals sign.

Advanced Formatting (Colors & Icons)

Minecraft uses specific “Escape codes” for formatting in the server.properties file. You must use \u00A7 or \u0026 followed by a color code.

Common Color Codes

  • Red: \u00A7c
  • Gold: \u00A76
  • Blue: \u00A79
  • Bold: \u00A7l
Example: motd=\u00A76FreakHosting \u00A77- \u00A7cSurvival Evolved!

Using an Online Editor

Formatting MOTDs manually with unicode escapes can be difficult. We recommend using a tool like mcmotd.cc or minecraft.tools to visually design your MOTD and then copy the generated “Server Properties” code directly into your file.
