To install a modpack on a FREAKHOSTING Minecraft server, open your server in the Game Panel, click Modpacks, pick a pack from CurseForge, Modrinth or Feed The Beast, choose a version and click Install modpack. The panel backs up your server first, installs the right Minecraft version and mod loader, and copies the pack’s server files. In our test it took about one minute.

Before you start

  • Check the pack’s recommended RAM. Big packs need a lot of memory. See how much RAM a modded server needs.
  • Keep one backup slot free. The installer makes a backup first, and it counts toward your backup limit.

How to install a modpack step by step

1

Open Modpacks

Open your server in the Game Panel and click Modpacks in the sidebar.
2

Find a pack

Choose a Source: CurseForge, Modrinth or Feed The Beast. Search by name, or filter by Minecraft version and Loaders. Use Sort by to change the order.

Installing a modpack

7

Start the server

When you see Modpack installed, start the server if it didn’t start on its own. The first start of a big pack can take a few minutes.

Why can’t I install some modpack versions?

Some versions have no server pack. The panel then shows This version has no server pack on CurseForge, so it cannot be installed on a server. and the Install button is greyed out. Choose another version. Packs marked Downloads disabled by the author can’t be downloaded by the panel. Get those from CurseForge yourself.

What happens to client-only mods?

Mods that only run on a player’s game, such as minimaps or shader mods, are skipped. The summary and the final message say how many. This is normal: they would stop a server from starting.

Do my players need the modpack too?

Yes. Every player needs the same modpack and the same version on their own game. They can install it with the CurseForge app, the Modrinth App, the FTB App or a launcher such as Prism Launcher.

Frequently asked questions

Does installing a modpack delete my world?

No, unless you switch on Delete Server Files. With it off, your worlds stay and the pack only replaces the files it ships. A backup is made first by default.

How do I go back if the modpack doesn’t work?

Restore the backup called “Before modpack <name>” on the Backups page. See how to restore a backup.

Can I add extra mods to a modpack?

Yes. Use the Mods page, which appears once your server runs a mod loader. Players then need the extra content mods too. See how to install mods.

Do I have to choose the loader myself?

No. The installer reads the pack and installs the right Minecraft version and loader through Version Changer.
