Kelvin and Virginia are the two companions in Sons of the Forest. You give Kelvin orders in your notepad, such as Get logs, Build or Follow me. Virginia takes no orders: you win her trust slowly, then she fights with the weapons you give her. A killed Virginia is gone from that world, but on a cheats world addcharacter virginia or addcharacter robby (Kelvin) adds a new one.

How to give Kelvin orders

Open your notepad and pick an order. Kelvin’s orders include: Later updates added orders to reset traps, fill log sleds and fill drying racks with fish. If Kelvin is knocked down, you can revive him, and he also recovers by himself after a while.

How to befriend Virginia

  • Don’t threaten or attack her. Calm, friendly meetings make her trust you.
  • She brings gifts such as berries, sticks, rocks or small animals, and sometimes leads you to camps or loot.
  • Give her a pistol or shotgun and she fights with it without using your ammo. She can also wear outfits you give her.
  • Give her a GPS locator to see where she is.
Virginia can be scared away or killed. If she dies, she is removed from that world.

How to add Kelvin or Virginia back with a command

On a world created with cheats on (custom game mode with "GameSetting.Multiplayer.Cheats": true), type cheatstick while playing, press F1 and type:

Both companions are in multiplayer worlds, and every player sees them. If any player has built up high trust with Virginia, the gold room scene plays for everyone.

How do I get Kelvin back if he died?

On a cheats world, type addcharacter robby in the F1 console. Without cheats, load a backup from before he died. See backups.

Can I teleport Kelvin or Virginia to me?

No. There is no command that moves them. Use Follow me for Kelvin, or addcharacter on a cheats world. See teleport commands.

Why won’t Virginia come near me?

She is wary at first and only warms up through calm, non-threatening meetings. Give her time and let her come to you.

Does Kelvin carry items?

Yes. On a cheats world, robbycarry log makes Kelvin hold an item, one at a time.
