An IP list is a named group of IP addresses and ranges. Each entry is marked as Whitelist (trusted) or Blacklist (blocked). You can then attach the list to a DDoS filter, so that filter treats those addresses differently.

IP lists work with IP addresses protected by DataForest. IP addresses protected by CosmicGuard or SkyPass don’t support IP lists. See which provider protects your IP.

When to use an IP list

  • Trust your own addresses, such as your office, home connection or another server you own.
  • Block troublemakers, such as addresses that keep attacking or abusing your server.
  • Reuse the same addresses across several filters or IP addresses, so you only update them in one place.
Lists belong to your organisation, so everyone on your team can use them.

View your IP lists

In the sidebar, click IP lists.

The IP lists page

Use the All providers drop-down and the search box to find a list by name or description.

Create an IP list

1

Click New list

On the IP lists page, click + New list.
2

Fill in the details

  • Name: a clear name, such as Trusted servers.
  • Description (optional): a note for your team, such as Office and VPN IPs.
  • DDoS provider: choose the provider that protects the IP addresses you’ll use the list with (currently DataForest).

Enter the address or range

  • CIDR: a single IP such as 198.51.100.7, or a range such as 192.168.1.0/24.
  • Action: Whitelist to trust it, or Blacklist to block it.
  • Description (optional): a note such as Office network.

Adding an entry to a list

4

Add it

Click Add entry. The entry appears in the list with its badge, description and the date it was added.
What’s CIDR? It’s a short way to write a range of addresses. /32 is one address, /24 is 256 addresses (for example 203.0.113.0 to 203.0.113.255). If you only need one address, just type the address on its own.

Click Delete list.
Before you delete a list, check whether any filters use it. Open each IP with Manage and look at the Source/IP list column.

Troubleshooting

Make sure the list’s DDoS provider matches the provider protecting the IP. You can change it with Edit.
Check the format. Use a single IP such as 198.51.100.7 or a range such as 198.51.100.0/24, with no spaces.
The list only takes effect on filters that use it. Check that the filter on the right port has your list in the Source/IP list column. Also check your country and ASN blocking.

Apply DDoS filters

Use your list in a filter.

Configure IP settings

Block whole countries or networks.
