Master of the Harvest

In the current versions of 7 Days to Die (7D2D), farming has evolved into a more complex and strategic system. Harvesting a mature plant now carries the risk of total crop loss, making calculated perk investments and proper infrastructure essential for establishing long-term food sustainability for your community.

Understanding the New Mechanics

The “Farming 2.0” system fundamentally changed the lifecycle of crops.
  • Physical Destruction: Unlike previous versions, harvesting a mature plant now removes it from the world. It no longer automatically resets to a seedling state.
  • Seed Return: By default, you have only a 50% probability of recovering a seed upon harvest.

Essential Perks: Living off the Land

To ensure your farming operations are profitable and self-sustaining, you must invest points into the Living off the Land perk, located under the Fortitude attribute.
1

Rank 1: Basic Farming

Harvest two items from wild or planted crops. This is the baseline required to begin your agricultural journey.
2

Rank 2: Improved Yield

Harvest three items per plant and benefit from reduced seed crafting costs.
3

Rank 3: True Sustainability

Harvest three items and gain a significantly improved chance of seed retention. At this rank, your farm becomes nearly self-sustaining through natural seed recovery.

Infrastructure: Farm Plots

To grow crops, you must use Farm Plots. These specialized blocks provide the necessary nutrients and can be crafted using rotting flesh, nitrate powder, dirt fragments, and stones.

Advanced Farming Tips

While no longer a craftable item in recent versions, using established Farm Plots is the only way to ensure your plants reach maturity. Ensure your plots are placed in areas with clear access to sunlight.
Prioritize growing Corn, Potatoes, and Blueberries first, as these are core ingredients for high-stat meals like Meat Stew and Blueberry Pie.
